PROJECT MANAGEMENT - GLOBAL PHARMACEUTICAL R&D

PROJECT MANAGER

JOB OUTLINE:
? To manage allocated Local or Global US R&D projects / support Global Project Leader by managing Global R&D Projects, to time, scope and budget while ensuring local and global marketing and regulatory requirements are met.
? To provide Project Management expertise to US R&D projects from initiation to launch.
? To prepare accurate initial project cost and timeline estimates for new/potential Local and Global R&D projects.
? To monitor Local / Global R&D project costs and timelines on a regular basis and share information with the local / global R&D project team.
? To keep full and accurate Project Management documentation to a standard format on all assigned Local and Global R&D projects.

Other Duties:
? Full Project Management responsibility for 5-10 Local or Global R&D projects
? Provide Project Management support to Global Project Leader on assigned Global R&D projects
? Management of and maintenance of full records / project management documentation to company formats on assigned Local and Global R&D projects.
? Ensure the team's and sponsor' objectives are consistent with the project's stated objectives.
? Manage and track all aspects of the project(s): defining, planning, implementation, performance and budget
? Lead Risk Management Process
? Determine project resource requirements and reconcile resource conflicts.
? Manage the activities of project team members and support staff including project admin duties.
? Liaison with project sponsor and functional staff to obtain their continued support and buy in.
? Assess project issues and develop solutions to meet scientific, productivity, quality and client satisfaction goals and objectives.
? Work with the Global Project Management Team to develop and implement tools, techniques and processes to provide or create information to enable informed decision making within the teams.
? Responsible for exhibiting professional behavior with both internal/external business associates that reflects positively on the company and is consistent with the company?s policies and practices.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

? Prepare accurate initial project cost and timeline estimates for new/potential Global and Local R&D projects
? Prepare and maintain Gantt charts for assigned Global and Local R&D projects and file these electronically within the appropriate Project Management shared area on the company network, in an appropriate project folder and for Local R&D projects, within the consolidated Gantt chart file.
? Prepare and maintain throughout the project lifecycle, in association with the project team, the Drug Development Plan / File for assigned Global and Local R&D projects.
? Actively manage and monitor all assigned Local and Global R&D projects by liaising closely with the project team (core and extended), to maintain detailed, up to date knowledge of project developments and to identify and mitigate project issues in a timely manner.
? Provide effective Project Management support to the Global Project Leader on assigned Global R&D projects as appropriate to the requirements of the Global Project Leader.
? Actively monitor Global / Local R&D project costs and timelines on a regular basis and share information with the project team. Highlight to the Global Project Leader / Decision-making body (for Global Projects) or Head of Project Management (for Local R&D projects), any potential delays to key milestones and/or deliverables and flag any potential and / or significant deviations to the budgeted cost and/or headcount utilisation.
? Lead the risk management process for all assigned Global and Local R&D projects. Ensure risks (threats / opportunities) are identified, assessed and assigned to a risk owner; and establish an agreed action plan with the project team for all risks that have been assessed to have a high impact on project parameters should they occur.
? Develop and maintain a risk register for all assigned Global and Local R&D projects
? Organise, chair and minute project team meetings for assigned Local R&D projects (NB ? minute taking can be delegated to other team member / department member as appropriate)
? Take minutes for other members of the Project Management Department for their assigned R&D projects, as requested
? Finalise and coordinate the distribution and filing of project team meeting minutes for assigned R&D projects (electronic and paper copies)
? Assist the Global Project Leader with the organisation and administration of Global Project Team meetings as required.
? Issue a list of due activities each month, via Administrator, to Local Heads of Department for assigned Local and Global R&D projects
? Issue updated summaries of Project Status every six months to Corporate Development for issue with forecast requests
? Ensure effective liaison with Global Marketing team and production to meet the needs of the project.

HEALTH AND SAFETY:
? Develop familiarity with the Health and Safety issues relevant to the above-stated position, observe the necessary health and safety procedures at all times thus ensuring the safety of myself and my colleagues.
? To maintain safe and tidy working conditions.

QUALITY ASSURANCE:
? Ensure work is carried out according to GMP/GLP standards as defined in the ICH Guidelines, EC Directives and local laws.
? Ensure all QA issues are considered for all projects.

DOCUMENTATION:
? To ensure all Project Management documentation for assigned Global and Local R&D projects is filed in the Project Management files according to current company Project Management best practices
? To assist in development, optimisation and maintenance of company Project Management ?methodology? and associated documentation (Handbook, templates, training materials etc)
? To be aware of the general requirements of eCTDs

FINANCIAL:
? To be aware of the personal responsibility for the control of costs
? To co-ordinate estimated project costs for potential new Global and Local R&D projects assigned
? To assist the Global Project Leader / Directors of Project Management with the actual and estimated project costings if required
? Keep local/Global Finance departments updated on Project Cost information

PEOPLE AND MANAGEMENT:
? To assist new team members and make them aware of their responsibilities to the team
? To identify own training and development needs.

Requirements
? MSc/Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, life sciences or related disciplines 5+ years of relevant work experience in pharmaceutical industry. 3+ years experience managing projects.
? Strong background in various aspects of product development and a full understanding and overview of the full drug development process
? Experience in management of multifunctional pharmaceutical development
? Proficient in use of Project Management Tools(e.g. MS Project)
? Good working knowledge of Microsoft Project and other widely used standard software packages (MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, Lotus Notes, etc)

? Strong leadership skills and professional approach
? High energy/self starter
? Strong interpersonal skills
? Empowering communicator
? Strong written and oral communication skills
? Creative and resourceful
? Ability to communicate and present ideas to upper level management
? Good organizational skills, detail-oriented and accurate, analytical skills
? Solid understanding of Project Management processes and how these are applied in pharmaceutical R&D to further optimise and maintain ?best practice? in Project Management at company R&D
? Good understanding and overview of the full drug development process
? Strong leadership qualities to influence project stakeholders.
? Proven ability to enroll others into a common vision and mission.
? With minimal guidance, must handle multiple responsibilities, priorities, tasks, and projects simultaneously with a positive, can-do attitude.
