 Description

This position leads the Process Development group in Boca Raton, supporting commercial and clinical production of plasma-derived proteins and clinical production of recombinant proteins. Maintains primary responsibility for ongoing evaluation and improvement of established production processes, including the characterization, optimization and validation of new or modified processes. Designs and manages experiments at bench, pilot, and commercial scale using centrifugation, filtration, and chromatography. Analyzes experimental data, including process trends in commercial manufacturing, and understands the significance of the findings. Supervises direct reports in Process Development group.

 Required Skills

Requires a thorough understanding of the biological and chemical properties of native and recombinant proteins as well as process and assay validation to support GMP manufacturing. Responsible for problem solving, root cause analysis and documentation. Must have the ability to work independently and in a group setting. Strong interpersonal, collaborative, communication, and supervisory competencies are essential. Takes ownership and is dedicated to success of projects or issues over the long term. Quickly and effectively adjusts to changes in priority or direction or new situations and environments. Develops tools to support the repeatability / scalability of a work process (e.g., project plans). Involves others to gain their ownership, support and cooperation.

 Required Experience

Requires a Ph.D. in biochemistry or chemical/biochemical engineering. Must have at least 3 years experience in cGMP biopharmaceutical manufacturing as well as hands on experience in commercial-scale protein purification. Has experience in statistical experimental design and statistical process control. Analyzes situations anticipating possible problems, opportunities, and threats. Also requires hands on experience in analytical techniques such as ELISA, HPLC, and electrophoresis.
