Research Scientist

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc. is seeking a Scientist to work on the development of PCR-based assays for the Technical Futures Group and the IDEXX Reference Laboratories.

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to lead development and validation of PCR assays for the veterinary diagnostics industry. This candidate should have strong communication skills to interact with a multidisciplinary team for expediting the development of Real-Time PCR (RT-PCR) assays within aggressive project timelines.

This position requires hands-on experience in development of RT-PCR assays. Supervisory experience preferred. The candidate is expected to have excellent written and verbal communication skills, outstanding organizational and team skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced multi-project environment.

Major responsibilities include:

? Bench-level work performing experiments to identify, develop, and validate RT-PCR assays
? Provide technical direction to Assistant/Associate level scientist throughout development and validation of the assay
? Design experiments to achieve project goals
? Documentation of experimental results and operating procedures
? Transfer technology and train laboratory personnel to perform RT-PCR assays

Requirements:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

? Bachelors or Masters with at least 5 years experience or PhD (or equivalent) in the Life Sciences with at least 1 year experience developing RT-PCR assays for diagnostic purposes

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

? Excellent laboratory skills and techniques
? Standard molecular biology methods including: cloning, DNA purification, electrophoresis, transformation, primer and probe design
? Attention to detail with strong organizational skills
? Familiarity with reference methods/gold standard assays (AGID, culture, ELISA, IFA)
? Able to work with outside vendors for reagents, manufacturing and resourcing
? Able to review the scientific literature
? RT-PCR using hybridization probes, hydrolysis probes, and/or molecular beacons
? Experience designing PCR assays for diagnostic purposes
? Experience with PCR laboratory design and protocol implementation
? Experience with SOP documentation, QC, and validation protocols
? Experience training laboratory personnel to perform RT-PCR
? Excellent communication skills for interactions with laboratory personnel and pathologists
