The Research Scientist II position requires a protein biochemist experienced in performing purification and extensive biophysical characterization of a diverse array of proteins (including membrane proteins) destined for enzymatic and structural studies in pharmaceutical drug discovery programs. The ability to manage biochemical efforts on multiple projects, and experience leading others is necessary to excel in this position. A strong technical background and expertise using biochemical and biophysical techniques such as circular dichroism, fluorescence spectroscopy, surface plasmon resonance, analytical ultracentrifugation is essential. Experience working with simple automated systems would be an asset. In addition to traditional purification experience, the successful candidate is expected to implement novel methods for the effective purification and stabilization of proteins.

This position requires a Ph.D. in an appropriate area of Biology or Biochemistry and 5 years of relevant experience in the expression and purification of proteins for structural biology and/or functional studies. A strong technical background with a record of accomplishments is required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
