SENIOR RESEARCH INVESTIGATOR

Job Responsibilities:

Carries out and interprets preformulation studies on new drug candidates to
define their physicochemical and pharmaceutical properties. Develops selective
assay methodologies. Generates data and interfaces with Drug Discovery groups
to support their efforts in designing and identifying developable new drug
candidates. Provides experimental, computational, predictive input to Drug
Discovery scientists during screening of new chemical entities, enables lead
optimization and guides candidate identification. Interfaces with development
functions to aid in the identification of preferred forms of the new drug
candidates, develops suitable compositions for preclinical toxicology studies
and drug discovery screening of new chemical entities. Participates in
multidisciplinary project teams. Writes research reports and documents in
support of candidate transition into development. Individual is responsible for
recording, evaluating, analyzing and interpreting the experimental data.
Advances a specific area of pharmaceutical science and develops expertise in
this area to enable discovery of drugs. Provides guidance and mentoring of
junior staff, serves as a spokesperson for the department to other functional
areas. Ensures compliance with and maintains required training in BMS and
departmental SOPs, safety and other guidelines, and with applicable
regulations. Ensures that notebooks and other documentations are up to date as
per departmental guidelines. Achieves objectives in a manner consistent with
the Core BMS Behaviors. Contributes to the preparation and presentation of
scientific material at internal and external meetings. Will be encouraged to
publish as part of project publication plans.

Job Requirements/Education:

Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical, Medicinal, Physical or Analytical Chemistry with
typical relevant experience of 5 to 10 years. Knowledge of basic chemistry and
pharmaceutical principles in understanding the physicochemical properties of
new drug entities and how they relate to the drugs in vivo disposition. Hands
on experience with routine analytical instrumentation. Strong understanding of
preformulation aspects for new chemical entities with ability to function as a
problem solver. Good written and verbal communication as well as having good
interpersonal skills and be an effective team player.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
