Senior Controls Systems Engineer

The Plant Engineer Control/Electrical Systems is a member of a multi-disciplinary Plant Engineering Group at NOVARTIS Emeryville facility, responsible for supporting manufacturing operations in compliance with cGMPs.

 

Main duties of this position are the assurance of the control and electrical systems reliability to support a pharmaceutical operation. Lead troubleshooting and mediation activities for control systems problems. Ensure the compliance of control systems to 21 Part 11 including back-up and disaster recovery strategies. Monitor and ensure the efficient operation of these systems, which are embedded into production equipment and integrated or are stand-alone systems. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and pursue relevant software and hardware upgrades. Understand and apply preventative maintenance methods to predict and avoid potential equipment failure. Initiate capital projects and support the project stages during design and execution. Coordinate with Manufacturing and Quality groups and collaborate with customers and other support groups toensure deliverables are provided in a timely manner, within budget and with the expected quality. Commission new equipment/components and prepare and support subsequent validation activities. Ensure adequate documentation and compliance to GAMP, SOPs and applicable codes and guidelines. Communicate with and present to outside regulatory agencies. Interact with vendors and suppliers. Standardize technical specifications and components based on gained equipment experience and performance.

 

REQUIREMENTS: B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Thorough knowledge and programming experience incontrol systems like ALAN BRADLEY and SIEMENS PLCs. Experience with SCADA systems, WINDOWS or DOS based application software for HMI and associated electrical systems. Knowledge of integrated systems and networks. A minimum of 10 years industry experience with at least 5 years in a GMP environment in pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing. We are looking for a person with strong communication skills with the ability to work in cross-functional teams. The candidate must be self-motivated and capable of performing the required work with minimal supervision. The work hours are Monday - Friday with after hours emergency on-call responsibility. The position reports to the Plant Engineering Associate Director.
