Senior HVAC/BAS System Engineer

DUTIES: The Plant Engineer HAVC/BAS systems is a member of a multi-disciplinary Plant Engineering Group at NOVARTIS Emeryville facility, responsible for supporting manufacturing operations in compliance with cGMPs. Main duties of this position are the assurance of the HVAC and Building Monitoring/Alarm systems' reliability to support a pharmaceutical operation, including aseptic filling. Lead troubleshooting and mediation activities for equipment problems. Monitor and ensure the efficient operation of respective plant support system that are working on a 24/7 schedule. Lead investigations to resolve operational deviations. Analyze equipment performance with statistical methods and interpret trends. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and pursue relevant software and hardware upgrades to the systems. Understand and apply preventative maintenance methods to predict and avoid potential equipment failure. Initiate capital projects and support the project stages during design and execution. Coordinate with Manufacturing and Quality groups and collaborate with customers and other support groups to ensure deliverables are provided in a timely manner, within budget and with the expected quality. Commission new equipment/components and prepare and support subsequent validation activities. Ensure adequate documentation and compliance to cGMPs, SOPs and applicable codes (e.g. ASHRAE). Communicate with and present to outside regulatory agencies. Interact with vendors and suppliers. Standardize technical specifications and components based on gained equipment experience and performance.

 

REQUIREMENTS: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. Must have thorough knowledge of HVAC, Building monitoring and/or alarm systems with their associated control systems. A minimum of 10 years of industry experience with at least 5 years in a GMP environment inpharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing We are looking for a person with strong communication skills with the ability to work in cross-functional teams. The candidate must be self-motivated and capable of performing the required work with minimal supervision. The work hours are Monday - Friday with after hours emergency on-call responsibility. The position reports to the Plant Engineering Associate Director.
