Position Description:

Based on the Research and Development priorities and the individual objectives defined with the manager, the platform objectives, and the project team objectives, the Development scientist will propose experimental design strategies within the scientific discipline, optimize production processes, or produce and release clinical lots. The incumbent supervises, trains, motivates, and empowers direct reports to perform assigned tasks. Experiments, studies, and processes should meet good manufacturing practices, and company and regulatory agency standards. The incumbent will contribute significantly to the success of an expanded glycoconjugate research and development program.

To meet platform and individual objectives, propose and implement strategies for experiments in discipline. May also plan for and supervise the production of development lots.
With manager's approval, and based on project timelines, schedule work, providing for the availability and readiness of materials, equipment, and facilities and the scheduling of trained staff
Analyzes results of experiments and studies, providing the manager with regular updates. Prepares, presents, and maintains technical reports.
Help direct reports develop their competencies by counsel and training. Ensures their knowledge of and compliance with quality and safety requirements and guidelines.
Ensure equipment is maintained by self or others and that laboratory supplies are available when needed. Recommend capital purchases.
Participate on project team subgroups and internal working groups to provide technical information, report on issues, provide technical assistance when required and assist with technology transfer.
Cultivates contacts outside the Company that may further the conjugate vaccine program
Maintains personal technical proficiency including attending training courses and national/international technical meetings. With Company pre-approval, may present findings to appropriate professional societies.

Qualifications:

D degree in Biochemistry, Natural Product chemistry or a related field. Candidates with Organic and Analytical chemistry experience are preferred.

At least six years of relevant work experience is required, optimally with polysaccharides or protein chemistry. Demonstrated experience with design of experiments, validation, analytical techniques, and aseptic technique is expected.
