Senior Specialist, EH&S - ERT/Life Safety Coordinator

The Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Life Safety Coordinator is responsible for managing two essential HSE programs for Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics? Emeryville campus.  The primary role of the position is to coordinate all aspects of the Emeryville Emergency Response Team including training development/delivery, meetings, drills, equipment/supply management, and muster zone management.  The position will also be responsible for developing and managing the site emergency response plan and all associated standard operating procedures (SOPs) including procedures and processes to investigate emergency incidents. The second main area of responsibility for the position is the management of life safety programs for Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics.  The individual is responsible for interpreting life safety codes, providing design input for existing and proposed facilities, and conducting periodic life safety audits to demonstrate code compliance. This position will collect, analyze, and communicate data related to emergency responses and life safety issues on campus.  Communications will be made to several layers of management, including senior executives.

 

Minimum Requirements

BS Degree (MS Preferred) in a relevant technical discipline and practical experience with the development and implementation of an emergency response program.  Experience in life safety programs including building and fire code analysis.  Operational knowledge and design of industrial equipment (e.g. HVAC systems, water treatment systems, boilers, solvent distribution systems) is desired.  Minimum 5 years experience in combined areas.

 

Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills needed to facilitate team achievement as a team participant or lead.  The position also requires demonstrated written and verbal skills, ability to effectively address multiple client service requests, established methods for creating and communicating health and safety information to diverse audiences, and proficiency in the use of computer programs such as MS Word, EXCEL, and Powerpoint to generate clearly written reports, data analysis, and effective training. 

 

Based in Emeryville, this position reports to the manager of Safety Services in the Health, Safety and Environment group.  The position may require occasional work hours during swing and graveyard shifts.
