Sr. Buyer / Purchasing Associate

Summary

This position is directly responsible for Purchasing personnel and general department operations. The person in this position assigns buying responsibility, directs the work of the buyers and is concerned with day-to-day purchases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinate purchases with requestors and place orders negotiating price and delivery. Manage supplier relationships, including selection, negotiation of supply agreements, performance monitoring and issue resolution. Develop and maintain purchasing policies and procedures as well as supervising, training, coaching and developing Purchasing personnel. Evaluate suppliers for new items and second sources as required. Follow-up on pending deliveries and monitor vendor performance. Research accounting and receiving questions. Coordinate returns with suppliers and resolve problems. Assignments as directed by manager. Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

BA/BS plus 5-7 years experience in purchasing bio-medical items, scientific supplies, and equipment. Must be proficient in preparing requests for quotes, securing supplier agreements and negotiating. Must be experienced with supplier audits and establishing a program for the assessment of supplier?s performance. Must be capable of solving difficult supplier problems. Experience with Integrated Enterprise Resource Management or Supply Chain Management Systems a must. Must have working knowledge of purchasing controls, terms and GMP requirements. Familiarity with ISO requirements is preferred. Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills for interactions with all company associates and suppliers. Must have strong organizational skills for prioritizing department workload, maintaining contracts and preparing supplier agreements.
