The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to end-top-end operational support capacity planning, data backup/recovery, performance monitoring, job scheduling, system integration and participating in or managing technical projects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS


Perform the following database system administration and maintenance tasks:

Maintain database user logins, passwords and privileges.

Maintain database integrity and security.

Implement all required backup and recovery procedures.

Monitor database system resources and performance.

Implement change control procedures for appropriate DBMS.

Manage availability, backup, restoration and recovery systems with the database

Handle storage management, performance, monitoring and tuning of the database.

Coordinate database design with IT development staff to ensure optimum performance, conformance to standards and naming conventions; generate database definitions.

Communicate all changes to the database system to appropriate individuals..

Assist IT staff in the deployment of developed database software.

Evaluate conditions and needs and recommend changes regarding database design.

Develop solutions to hardware and operating system problems.

Coordinate database system upgrades with IT staff, end users and vendors.

Develop, publish and maintain database operations manual under revision control.

Maintain documentation related to database development platform guidelines, methods and standards

Provides technical leadership to peers and junior personnel within Infrastructure Services

May perform management functions in absence of manager

May act as a technical project manager for major projects

Perform other related duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

May be required to work a rotational shift pattern to provide IT support outside of the normal working day.

May be required to occasionally provide "on-call" out of hours support during the evenings, nights and or weekends.

May require travel to other sites; this may involve domestic or international travel.

Qualifications
Required
BA/BS in any area of the sciences or engineering

Required

At least 8 years of experience in a similar role, responsible for managing and maintaining complex IT environments with emphasis on High Availability and business continuity (clustering and redundancy, backup and restore solutions, disaster recovery procedures) production and/or mission critical environments.

Knowledge of Operating Systems software.

Technical expertise pertaining to products and services in the responsibility area including, but not limited to:

Working knowledge of using databases in Client/Server and Wide Area Network (WAN) environment.

Experience with database design, maintenance and tuning.

Proven ability to work independently and with a project team.

Good attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Proven ability to assist development team in data modeling and logic database design

Strong communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to communicate with external clients and internal team members.

Excellent ability to handle significant workload with experience in managing multiple projects concurrently in a matrix process environment.

Proven ability to multi-task, work in fast-paced environment and prioritize

Willingness to work evenings and weekends, when necessary
