Sr. Research Biologist - Neuroscience - Alzheimer’s Disease

The individual will join a multi-disciplinary team of scientists at the Merck Research Laboratories Boston facility, focused on the pursuit of novel therapies for Alzheimer?s disease, in particular those with the potential to modify disease pathophysiology. In addition to supporting on-going drug development programs, the scientist will be encouraged to develop their own ideas around emerging targets identified from chemical and genetic screens. The individual will have the opportunity to contribute towards the characterization of new animal models and to explore the mechanism of drug action in vivo, including the identification of appropriate biomarkers.

Requirements include a Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. in biochemistry, or a relevant related biological field, with at least one year of postdoctoral research experience. An excellent working knowledge of APP and Tau biology is essential, coupled to experience in protease or kinase assay development. Familiarity with a wide range of technologies and demonstrated technical expertise in recombinant and/or primary cell culture (including plasmid and siRNA transfection) would be highly desirable. Successful candidates will be independent thinkers, and have excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. A demonstrated high level of competency in data analysis and presentation is required. Good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a matrix organization is essential.
