System Administrator - UNIX

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, end to end operational support, capacity planning, data backup/recovery, performance monitoring, job scheduling, system integration, participating in or managing technical projects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES


Provide operational support for server Unix and Linux operating system platforms.

Plan, design and implement new Intel-based server solutions.

Integrate Unix solutions with other platform technologies (i.e Database, other operating systems).

Install and configure new software and hardware as required.

Provide input and participate in strategic planning sessions.

Demonstrate strong organizational, technical validation and documentation skills.

Understand and comply with defined standards for FDA regulated IT environments.

Support internal and external customers as needed.

Receives general direction from manager.

Provides technical leadership to peers and junior personnel within Infrastructure Services.

May perform management functions in absence of manager.

May act as a technical project manager for major projects.

May be required to work a rotational shift pattern to provide IT support outside of the normal working day.

May be required to provide occasional "on-call" out of hours support during the evenings, nights and or weekends.

May be required to travel to other sites; this may involve domestic or international travel.

Qualifications
BA/BS in any area of the sciences or engineering. Masters preferred

Required

3-8 years of experience in a similar role, managing and maintaining large IT environments with emphasis on High Availability and business continuity (clustering and redundancy, backup and restore solutions, disaster recovery procedures) production and/or mission critical environments.

Knowledge of Unix operating systems including Sun Solaris and HP Unix.

Knowledge of Sun/HP hardware platforms, SAN technologies (IBM/EMC), Brocade Switches, StorageTek backup libraries.

Network Operating System products including NIS, Shell Scripting (Korn/Cshell), Veritas Suite of Disk Management tools, HP Volume Manager, Veritas NetBackup, HP OmniBack, terminal and xterminal Emulation Software, web servers (apache).

Ability to support infrastructure technologies including RSA Ace Servers, VMware ESX server, DNS, SMTP, FTP, SSH, SFTP.

Ability to work closely with Admins on the support of SAS and databases including Oracle, Sybase, Informix.

Strong communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to communicate with external clients and internal team members.

Excellent ability to handle significant workload with experience in managing multiple projects concurrently in a matrix process environment.

Proven ability to multi-task, work in fast-paced environment and prioritize.

Willingness to work evenings and weekends, when necessary.
