Technical Architect

POSITION SUMMARY:   The Technical Architect is responsible for the design and development of technology solutions used in the research and development of pharmaceutics. The Architect will work cross-functionally with different Informatics departments and various business areas. This position requires fundamental pharmaceutical business understanding, deep and broad technical experience and strong management skills.  The architect will be responsible for overall setting of technical architecture and day-to-day design and development activities as well as strategic planning

 

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Working within a project/account-based organization the Technical Architect is responsible for the evaluation, recommendation and implementation technology infrastructure in concert with Infrastructure/Engineering team. In this role the Technical Architect will work with the members of the project/account-based teams to support the capture of client requirements, translating these into technical solutions. The Technical Architect will be responsible for the overall technology from conceptualization through physical implementation.  Ensuring alignment with corporate standards, adequate provisions for predicted scalability and overall performance as required to support the stated business need and function. During this process the Architect will be responsible for selecting component pieces of the technology solution and ensuring that these component elements integrate with all other aspects of the technology solution. As the infrastructure is designed, the Technical Architect in conjunction with Infrastructure/Engineering is responsible for the selection of hardware and systems software.

 

ADDITIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
Creation of technology designs starting from technology strategy moving through conceptual and logical to physical designs.
Definition of technology solution and recommendation of decision to procure/order.
Conducting project/account design reviews.
Reviewing and approving project design deliverables.
Definition of project/business technology strategy.
Remain current on developing technologies within the marketplace to monitor and continually assess the impact of potential technological changes on the Enterprise and its architecture.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related area preferred.

 

Experience:  
Hands-on execution experience with a proven track record of delivering solutions.
3-5 years of Documentum experience is mandatory.
Experience in other pharma IT systems ? Clinical Systems, Drug Safety & Surveillance is a plus.
5+ years of experience in designing & architecting web applications and leading development teams.
Experience architecting solutions in the R&D area of pharmaceutical industry.
Experience with data and event driven architecture.
5-7 years of work experience with systems implementation, preferably in a multi-company, multiple connection environments. 
Solid experience with software development life cycle methodologies
Experience with networking and security. 
Minimum 5 years in project management

Ability to work cross functionally is necessary; must have business acumen and the desire to work outside of the technology team.
Solid project management and risk mitigation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Windows 2000/2003, UNIX/Sun Solaris and Oracle DBMS 9i/10g.
Solid exposure to Web technologies (J2EE and .NET).
Computer Systems Validation in a Pharmaceutical Company is a plus.
Ability to respond well under aggressive time constraints
