Technician II

Technician II Description: This local pulp and paper company in Federal Way, WA is seeking a Technician II for the Research and Development division. Work in a team supporting early implementation of production systems for somatic embryogenesis of tree species. This is a key technology for long-term improvement of sustained yield from commercial forest lands. Work will be in tissue culture laboratories, mostly routine in nature. Desirable candidates will be flexible and adaptable to change. Sterile transfer of liquid and solid media and tissue samples, media and stock preparation, preparation of sterile supplies and glassware, initial testing and operation of developmental equipment and methods as required.





Requirements:
The ideal candidate must have the ability to work safely. Laboratory safety experience, including familiarity with MSDS.
1-2 years experience with detailed lab work or preferred: Degree or vocational certificate including biology, horticulture, chemistry or related field, and/or four years or Bachelors degree. Experience with sterile techniques. Strong communication skills. Ability to tolerate ambiguity of job responsibilities and diverse work environments. Ability to adapt to changing priorities / new procedures. Organizational skills and ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Experience preparing complex chemical media and knowledge of basic chemistry and techniques. Familiarity with common laboratory instruments and devices. Willing to carry out often repetitive and detailed procedures accurately, reliably and with care. Good interpersonal skills and willingness to support other team members. Ability to be flexible to varying working conditions and assignments. First aid certification. Ability to troubleshoot equipment. Experience with Microsoft Office products

Pay Rate: $12.50 - $15.00 Hourly DOE
