VIROLOGY CLIN SCI MGR-Baltimore/Wash DC

Function / Objective: The Clinical Science Manager (CSM) will advance relationships with established and emerging Regional/National opinion leaders. They will track various HIV and HCV treatment guidelines and interface with the allied health care professionals who shape them. They will be responsible for developing creative and innovative strategies for addressing the specific needs of key customers. They will assist with Phase IIIb/IV and Investigator Initiated Studies. Goals will be accomplished by the development and execution of an area business plan in concert with appropriate internal customers.

Primary Functions:
x Work closely with internal customers to develop and execute a business plan designed to meet shared business objectives.
x Develop tactics for communicating complex scientific information to the healthcare community.
x Populate and maintain all relevant commercial and clinical data on targeted clients within the HIV Opinion Leader Database.
x Uncover HIV data that may have the potential for publication and/or abstract presentation.
x Disseminate and convey complex medical and scientific information to professional and internal audiences.
x Provide necessary clinical support for PPD HIV Franchise products in third-party payor environment. Present scientific evidence in support of customers developing guidelines and protocols.
x Develop and maintain professional relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and academic centers in therapeutic areas of commercial and research interests. Provide appropriate scientific and technical support.
x Develop speakers through one-on-one clinical training on approved clinical slide sets.
x Act as a clinical resource with professional and advocacy organizations with the objective of developing relationships and identifying potential business opportunities.
x Identify and support research opportunities with appropriate healthcare practitioners as they relate to Phase IV studies via investigator-initiated protocols.
x Identify opportunities to partner with clinicians on HIV initiatives and develop programs to drive and augment sales strategies.
x Serve as scientific resource to sales, marketing and clinical as appropriate. Assist with CME content development, medical content review and professional communication materials.
x Provide support for answering unsolicited medical questions, adverse event follow through and other clinically related medical information issues.
x Perform administrative duties in a timely manner as assigned.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities: The Clinical Science Manager has no direct reports.

x Exceptional communication skills both oral and written as a need to deliver comprehensive presentations to small/large groups of health care providers and internal management.

x Teamwork is a mandatory requirement as it involves internal/external networking in the district, region, franchise and across division.

x Excellent planning and organizational skills to demonstrate leadership and initiative.

x High capacity to work long hours, travel extensively and attend weekend programs.
Problem Solving:
x The Clinical Science Manager must be able to identify, analyze, and translate specific account needs and problems into business opportunities. These opportunities will be realized upon the development and execution of innovative solutions that satisfy both the customer and the Virology Franchise, Sales and Marketing teams.
Accountability:
x The HIV market remains dynamic and new treatment modalities and concepts are constantly evolving. The Clinical Science Manager must be alert to key changes in the market by listening to providers, competitors and governmental regulators.
x Successfully managing projects by meeting assigned benchmarks will be the primary measure of success.
x The Clinical Science Manager is responsible for developing and achieving Franchise goals. Projects implemented by the research scientists have a positive impact on the HIV therapeutic area and support commercial objectives. Programs delivered to the medical community will affect the opinions of key therapeutic area opinion leaders.. The Clinical Science Managers is responsible for delivering the clinical data and scientific information to support the strategic objectives of the franchise. Scope of Authority :
x The Clinical Science Manager maintains the authority to determine the most significant clinical and business opportunities within his/her respective assignment. The determination is based upon available market research data, probability of success and input from appropriate internal customers.
x The Clinical Science Manager also has the authority to make resource allocation recommendations as is appropriate to achieve business objectives.
x The Clinical Science Manager reports into the Virology Franchise Vice President/General Manager through a Senior Clinical Science Manager and Director.

Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years of pharmaceutical or similar health care industry related experience in a senior clinical role, with HIV-related experience preferred.
Advanced Degree and Clinical Experience Required (eg.PharmD, MD, PhD, MSN, Doctorate in Nursing, etc.), with a concentration in the field of HIV
