CUSTODIAN
RESPONSIBILITIES
Basic Assignment
Perform custodial tasks to maintain cleanliness and care of facilities at Tacoma Community College.
Essential Functions
? Clean and sanitize restroom/shower rooms and fixtures in accordance with established procedures and standards; refill restroom dispensers.
? Clean whiteboards and erasers; dust and wipe furniture; sweep, mop or vacuum floors; wash windows; empty wastebaskets, trash, and recycle containers; empty and clean cigarette urns; replace light bulbs; and set clocks, etc.
? Strip, clean, buff, and apply finish to floors; use and maintain high-speed floor buffers/polishers; vacuum and clean/shampoo carpets.
? Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools such as vacuum, broom, mop, squeegee, and ladder for cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, and furniture.
? Lock and unlock buildings; secure buildings when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and windows; and report unauthorized occupants.
? Follow written and/or verbal instructions regarding use of chemicals, supplies and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures; prepare work orders for repair and/or maintenance and maintain written custodial logs.
? Perform cleaning and related activities within reasonable distance from buildings using hand-operated tools or small power equipment to remove snow or debris and to sweep sidewalks or stairs.
? Drive and safely operate a motor vehicle to transport trash and supplies to and from areas of responsibility. (Seatbelt required.)
? Attend required safety meetings
? Set-up and take down equipment, such as whiteboards and easels, and furnishings, such as folding chairs and tables needed for meetings, classrooms, conferences and events.
? Move & store supplies and materials.
? Perform related tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum QualificationsHigh school graduation or equivalent.Physical ability to do the work.
Preferred Qualifications
? Two years custodial experience in a public facility within the last 5 years.

Specifically address your knowledge, experience and training in cleaning methods, safety practices, and use of chemicals, equipment and supplies in custodial work.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a full-time position with a work schedule of Sunday evening through Thursday morning from 10:30 pm to 7:00 am. The salary is $1,803 per month with periodic increases to $2,268 per month plus .50 per hour or $87.00 per month shift differential. Tacoma Community College offers a generous benefits package to include: Life, health, dental and long-term disability insurance, state retirement, vacation leave, sick leave and holiday pay. A collective bargaining agreement exist and membership in the Washington Public Employees Association or payment of a service fee is required within 30 calendar days of employment. The layoff unit for this position is "All Other Classified Positions, including Gig Harbor Campus Custodians."
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
? Union Shop Provision: This position is represented by the Washington Public Employees Association. The successful candidate will be required to become a member of the union and pay membership dues or pay a representation or non-association fee within 30 calendar days of employment.Must have a current valid Washington State driver?s license.
? Adequate English, reading and writing skills to respond to supervisory instructions and instructions contained on equipment, chemicals, supplies, emergency procedures, material safety data sheets and to maintain written logs and work orders.
? Ability to climb and balance on ladders (up to 10 ft) to replace light bulbs, wash windows, dust, set clocks etc.Ability to lift/move garbage bags and recycling boxes weighing up to 50lbs, and push/roll recycling bins, carpet cleaners, buffers etc. weighing up to 100lbs.
