Hotel Chief Engineer

The Chief Engineer will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair and replacement of all electrical, mechanical and architectural systems throughout our 165 room facility. This person will continue to develop our preventative maintenance program.

 

Priorities to include providing exceptional service to our external and internal guests, safety, asset preservation and exceeding mission-supporting financial goals.  The Chief Engineer will inspire, support and assist an Assistant Chief Engineer and a staff of four individuals as they  provide on-going facility maintenance.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  This leadership position calls for a hands-on person who is able to ?hit the ground running? and to support/train/assist with all aspects of the Engineering operation.  The ideal candidate will be a person who will fit with our already very strong leadership team, and will be someone who is able to immediately earn the respect of his or her new staff.  The successful candidate must be a team player who is proactive, dedicated, hardworking, responsible, organized, creative, and able to get things done.  He or she will be a person who can identify, anticipate, prevent and solve problems as necessary, and he or she will be a person who easily, constantly and fully communicates with our external and internal guests regarding the status of their maintenance requests.

 

Primary responsibilities for the Chief Engineer will include:

 

? Supporting the continued development, implementation and administration of a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.

? Supporting the continued development, implementation and administration of a comprehensive maintenance request system, to include quick and continuing communication as to the status of each request and pending systems so that lower priority requests are not lost.

? Conducting regular walk-throughs and visual assessments of the physical plant and its supporting mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems.  Being proactive in having maintenance items completed before they are formally requested by non-Engineering staff.

? Coordinating all necessary inspections (including fire safety systems and elevators) to maintain proper safety standards.

? Leading the first-response effort to any alarms, determining the exact location and cause of the alarm, and reacting accordingly.

? In partnership with the Assistant Chief Engineer, acting as the emergency contact person should mechanical or other systems need immediate attention after regular business hours.

? Coordinating the continued development of a comprehensive capital needs list and providing systems that will allow this to be updated and re-prioritized on a continual basis.

? Continually researching and implementing approaches to improve energy conservation and decrease energy expenses.

? Continuing to build an exemplary Engineering team through interviewing, setting expectations, orientation, training, team building, coaching, holding accountable and leadership.

? Providing organization, training, instruction and guidance to the members of the Engineering staff to help ensure individual and team success.

? Requesting, reviewing and analyzing bids for major repairs, major purchases and new construction.  Must have the ability to interview/choose the best vendors, assimilate complex information, know the questions to ask, negotiate as appropriate and be able to distill the information received toward recommending/making the best purchasing decisions.

? Exceeding guest service expectations while simultaneously exceeding mission-supporting financial results.

? Monitoring, forecasting, understanding, analyzing and positively affecting mission-supporting financial results.

? Maintaining the highest standards of safety and maintenance throughout the property.

? Ensuring administrative matters affecting the department are completed in

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

? Minimum of four years management experience as a Chief Engineer in a like-size full-service hotel, hospital or other similar operation.

? A broad and in-depth professional knowledge of implementing and supporting systems to improve the maintenance and useful life of our physical assets.

? A proven ability to choose, train, support and develop staff.

? A proven ability to manage to financial results.

? A proven ability to support an engineering operation on its journey from good to great.

? A positive, hands-on, ?do it now?, take-charge attitude.

? Self-motivation and the desire to make the engineering operation his or her own.

? Excellent communication skills with employees, colleagues, guests and supervisors.

? A strong working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, refrigeration, carpentry, general repairs and maintenance.  Certifications are a plus.

? A strong working knowledge of emergency systems and first-response procedures.

? An absolute commitment to safety policies and procedures.

? An aptitude with computers.

? The ability to work nights and weekends, as requiredmeetings with the Assistant Chief Engineer, and with the entire engineering team, toward ensuring that all members of this team understand the challenges, goals and priorities of the department and are working together toward conquering/exceeding/addressing these.
