Supply Technician

Nemours owns and operates the Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE, as well as four major Children's specialty centers in Wilmington, Jacksonville, Orlando, and Pensacola.

 

The Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, with a long-established and excellent reputation in pediatric health care, draws a broadly diverse patient population.  The hospital, supported in part through an endowment from the Nemours Foundation, continues to grow both regionally and nationally and is the tertiary care center for pediatrics within the Jefferson Health System.

 

I t is the responsibility of the Supply Techs to monitor and provide supplies to all of the hospitals patient care units.  This is to be done on a daily basis unless otherwise arrangements have been made with specific departments. It is also the Supply Techs responsibility to participate in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement working with department management to improve the services provided.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, and safety standards.


2.  Process inventory counts of the supply carts in the patient care areas to which you are assigned. This is to be done using the Lawson handheld devices to which you will download par count sheets for the units that are being counted. Counts will be entered into the handheld and downloaded to lawson which will result in a pick list of supplies needed to bring the supply carts up to ?par level?. These items must be pulled from the storeroom stock and delivered and to the appropriate area and the designated place on the cart.


3.  Will have access code to medication room on all nursing units so that par levels for pharmacy solutions, needles and syringes can be maintained.  The use of this access is for these specific items only, and at no time will a supply technician provide access to any other employee. The use of this card is closely monitored.


4.  Establish and maintain line of communication with the nurse manager on your unit to regularly review items on the par and the progress of the supply process


5.  Insure that the par levels on your assigned units are configured for optimal utilization.


6.  Review par utilization reports regularly to identify items that may need to be adjusted.


7.  Replace any ?expired? products on the supply carts and arrange for appropriate disposal.


8.  Deliver emergency supplies to the patient care areas immediately as requested.


9.  In the event of an absence of another employee in the department, the absent employees job responsibilities will be divided up among the remaining employees on duty.


10.  The cleanliness and organization of the supply carts is the responsibility of the Supply Tech to which they are assigned.


11.  Assist in putting away inventoried stock items received by the hospital.


12.  Notify the Inventory Control Clerk of any stock outs or shortages immediately

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

I.  Education, Training and Experience

1.  High School Diploma or equivalent.
2.  2 years Medical/Surgical Product experience preferred.
3.  2 years inventory and par level system experience preferred.
