Scope of Position :
This Product Development Engineer (PDE) will be assigned to projects in CPDSL that will require a good but not exclusive knowledge of electrical/electrical mechanical engineering skills. In addition to electrical engineering the candidate will also require good mechanical engineering aptitude. This position will require the candidate to occasionally work as a team member of a multiple department team and may be the team leader. The candidate will at times direct activities of drafters, designers, lab technicians and possibly other product development engineers. In addition to product related projects the PDE will also work on manufacturing related projects.

Day to Day Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, designing products and managing multiple development projects. Design electrical DSL products (multi-stage filters, balun and etc.) and electrical protection. Products housings will be environmentally protected from the outdoor elements and may be fabricated from sheetmetal or plastic.

? Manage multiple short and long term development projects
? Design and package fiber optic products for outdoor applications
? Develop sheetmetal and plastic (injection molded) components and assemblies
? Direct work efforts of Engineering Technicians and Drafters
? Test products to verify compliance with Internal, Customer and/or Industry specification requirements
? Develop installation practices
? Provide manufacturing support for existing products
? Prioritize and complete multiple tasks meeting all requirements within specific time parameters
? Fully understand product costs to ensure they meet project cost target requirements

Travel Requirements:
Up to approximately 20% (some international mainly to main manufacturing facilities: RY and DR)

Hours of Work/Work Schedule/flex-time:
Mon- Fri; 8:00 AM to 5:00 PMREQUIREMENTS

Required Skills
? Electrical/electro-mechanical skills
? Fluent command of the English language and able to compose and communicate both in written and verbal formats complex technical and business issues to the various levels inside and outside of the organization
? A minimum of 5 years experience in product development.
? Possess strong analytical skills and the understanding of how financial/business decision are made.
? Possess strong work ethic and attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
? Work efficiently on multiple projects and prioritize effectively to meet deadlines
? Adapt quickly to changing requirements
? Must be willing to travel up to approximately 20% (mostly CCS manufacturing locations)

Desired Skills:
? Knowledge of telephone networks and familiarity with Telcordia Generic Specifications
? Knowledge in telephony electrical protection and grounding
? Knowledge of manufacturing processes and practices
? Ability to develop product costs

Education and Experience:
? BS in a technical area (BSEE preferred) or equivalent degree with analytical background
