Datatel Application Specialist

Responsibilities: Responsible for the effective and efficient functioning of the Colleague Accounts Receivable and Cash Receipt Management system.  Integrate the Colleague application with other computer software, including web-based applications.  Responsible for departmental and institutional reporting, managing electronically generated communication between the Business Office and students, troubleshooting processing problems, and developing and maintaining quality controls to ensure accuracy of all accounting functions. Develop and maintain documentation of all department computer application procedures.  Develop, implement and conduct testing plans for system "patches", updates and new releases.  Provide staff training on the Datatel application.  Oversee the Communication Management functions of the Datatel application in Accounts Receivable.  Participate in software integration meetings with staff from other campus offices and integrate testing plans with these offices.  Develop and implement business office reporting and develop I-descriptors and processing rules in conjunction with the Office of Information Systems and Technology.  Perform other duties as assigned in support of the business office. This position may require flexible schedule, including some evening and weekend hours, to accommodate business needs.  The position may require travel to conferences.

 

Qualifications:  Required:  Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information science or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Proven experience in gathering and analyzing data, reasoning logically, drawing valid conclusions, and making effective recommendations to management.  Demonstrated ability to work independently; take initiative, and exercise discretion and judgment on matter of significance. Working knowledge of the logic of computer applications and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge to solve routine, extraordinary, and complex systems issues and problems.  Detailed understanding of data relationships, data input (manual & electronic), and data reporting.  Proven experience in computer application analysis and demonstrated ability to identify and incorporate complex application rules into the work product.  Strong writing skills to prepare clear and concise correspondence and application documentation and manuals.  Strong team player. Experience in prioritizing duties when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload.  Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to explain technical application data to both users and non-users.  Knowledge of basic arithmetic calculations and ability to use standard office equipment. Intermediate level of knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, particularity Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Web applications.

 

Desired:  Substantial experience utilizing the Datatel application, especially the Colleague Accounts Receivable and Cash Receipt Management system.  Knowledge of accounts receivable functions and collections management best practices and reporting.  Knowledge of federal, state and university laws, regulations, policies and procedures and experience in the application of the knowledge to develop, maintain and enhance electronic information systems. Experience working for a university.  Knowledge of Chapman University policies and procedures.
