Network Architect

We currently seek a Network Engineer that can come into our organization and work to establish the vision, architecture, strategy, and design of the Next Generation Network (NGN) for the Idaho National Laboratory (INL). This resulting architecture will cover the entire INL communications network, including voice, SONET, optical transport, LAN, MAN, WAN, WiFi, convergence, and wireless infrastructure. The Network Architect will be an active participant on the INL Enterprise Architecture Board and will be responsible for Communications Infrastructure input to the Enterprise Architecture Repository.

 

Responsibilities Include:Developing a network architecture that encompasses (removed meets) all relevant security requirements and enables the INL mission including the design and implementation of network segmentation, virtualization, firewalls, VPN, DMZ, and IDS.Developing recommendations related to network and network management issues including the evaluation of emerging technologies as well as consulting on interoperability issues, network design and implementation, network management and the design of Standard Operation Environments.Evaluate emerging technologies and develop new techniques and tools in support of the INL strategic initiatives ? this includes the national Cyber, Critical Infrastructure, and SCADA test beds as well as the next generation collaboration nuclear network.  Performing lead function in multiple platform network integration projects, assist customers with major network strategy development and deployment as well as provide customer with end-to-end technology solutionsSupport customer focus and priorities through effective project management disciplines and techniques as well as act as project manager and engineer on the deployment of communications infrastructure initiatives.Development of the Network Technology Reference Model; the As-Built Baseline Model; the To-Be Conceptual Model; the Network Architecture Roadmap; and the Communications Infrastructure Department (CID) standards and protocols. 

 

Qualifications Include:Eight years of progressive experience in planning, installing, and managing large networks including technical design and engineering of voice, SONET, optical transport, LAN, MAN, WAN, WiFi, wireless, and security (firewalls, VPN, DMZ, and IDS) infrastructure Experience in requirements analysis, network design, and evaluation of technology infrastructure upgrades, and the ability to design and integrate hardware, software, and network systems is required Extensive experience with Cisco routers, switches and their related IOS as well as networking with firewalls and NAT is required; must be able to identify, evaluate, and recommend network components to meet business and budgetary requirements; have a strong understanding of network operating systems and open systems protocols MUST HAVE a proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale, high-availability, segmented, architecture-driven networks within the industry and maintain a thorough knowledge and in-depth field experience regarding emerging or job technologies required fulfilling the job, this could include formal or self paced professional development.
