PURPOSE: The IT Systems Delivery team is looking for a self driven and passionate Systems Engineer to join our team, providing superior systems engineering and expertise to manage and optimize all service operations.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provide technical engineering support for the implementation, integration, and evolution of application, service, and complex systems architectures. Design and maintain services support strategies. Architect, implement, and maintain problem management and change management tactics. Provide application performance monitoring, tuning, and optimization tactics. Provide technical expertise for resolving critical production systems issues. Provide systems statistical trending and analysis, systems documentation maintenance, and the analysis and evaluation of new systems designs and technical strategies. Work with other team members to troubleshoot complex support issues, identify root causes, and develop mitigation options. Improve, evolve, and revolutionize the systems and processes to drive towards constant service availability. Stay abreast of fast changing new technologies. Assist with the growth and mentorship of a highly skilled and agile work team.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, OTHER WORK CHARACTERISTICS: Strong understanding of application management and technologies. Strong working knowledge of Active Directory, XML, TCP/IP, client/server, Internet architecture, Unix, Windows NT, RDBMS (e.g., Sybase, SQL Server), GUIs (e.g., PowerBuilder), C++/C#, Visual Basic, .NET, Enterprise Java Beans, security hardening procedures, and system management tools for real-time applications. Advanced knowledge of networking topologies, protocols, and networking architectures. Expertise with monitoring large scale environments, as well as capacity and security modeling is a must. Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communications skills, and the ability to be highly self-directed when required, and work closely within a team. Must effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks in accordance with high level objectives/projects. Strong knowledge and understanding of structured analysis, technical design techniques, and the software development lifecycle methodology. Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related discipline, or equivalent work experience and technical training, is required. Minimum 2 years of experience in systems development, with multiplatform environments, including Unix or NT, as well as significant client/server platform knowledge. Experience in design and implementation of Web services. A valid Washington State driver's license, or the ability to obtain one, is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 4 or more years of experience in systems development and programming. Familiarity with line of business legacy systems. Experience as a team member on project teams in a cross-functional environment. Substantial work experience over the entire software development process, including requirements gathering and analysis, design, selection of tools and technologies, release and version control, testing methodologies, and deployment management.
ENVIRONMENT: Will work in a fast-paced office environment and travel to other work locations as required. The technology environment consists of a distributed, multi-tier Web services architecture with over 150 disparate applications and services, both vendor supported and developed in-house. Windows Server 2003, Websphere, Active Directory, Cisco, TCP/IP, HP UNIX, LINUX, Exchange 2003, MS SQL Server, and Sybase.
COMMENTS: Will be fingerprinted for a criminal history background check with the FBI.
