3615Functional Subject Matter Expert: Public Health Analyst is needed to work with the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP), National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), CoCHP, which provides public health leadership to improve cardiovascular health for all and reduce the burden and disparities associated with heart disease and stroke. This position will plan and conduct data analysis focused on the WISEWOMAN program results but also to include a broader array of public health issues under the direction and consultation of the senior epidemiology and evaluation staff of the WISEWOMAN program. The position is responsible for developing publication plans, analytical plans incorporating appropriate statistical, evaluative, and epidemiologic methods and techniques, executes the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data, and interprets the results. Analyses include assessing accuracy and quality of data. Prepares comprehensive publishable reports of study results which include discussion of substantive health issues and research objectives; assessment of the adequacy and quality of data used in the analyses; and explanation of the methodologies, results, and relevance to health issues as they relate to the epidemiological or evaluation problem under study. Provides technical leadership, consultation, and advise on epidemiologic analysis and methods. Specific projects on which the incumbent will work includes 1) Analysis and interpretation of evaluation, epidemiologic and surveillance studies examining trends, state variations, disparities, disability, and risk factors related to heart diseases and stroke. 2) Analysis of available WISEWOMAN data to assess the short- and long-term impact of the WISEWOMAN program. 3) Other studies as needed by WISEWOMAN team as agreed to with the incumbent and supervisor. Other duties: Analyze major national databases including National Vital Statistics, Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, National Health Interview Survey, National Hospital Discharge Survey, Medicare, and other databases. Assist senior staff to respond to requests for scientific information from the division, center, Agency and other entities as deemed appropriate by the supervisor. Maintain current scientific knowledge and information, and serves as a content expert in heart disease and stroke prevention. Maintain detailed documentation of all project-related information including meeting results and agreements, and status and progress of scientific analysis and report writing. Assist in writing and updating literature review summaries and data analyses summaries for hard-copy documents, on-line products, fact sheets and CDC handouts. Attend regular WISEWOMAN, branch, and division meetings and others as appropriate to fulfill the job duties. Present findings at national and regional public health and scientific conferences.
Required Skills:
? Training and knowledge in epidemiology and public health, including statistical analysis and statistical programming including SAS and SUDAAN.
? Experience working with major national databases including Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, National Vital Statistics System, National Health Interview Survey, and other databases.
? Ability to successfully carry out all activities related to scientific analysis and reporting of heart disease and stroke surveillance and epidemiology, including literature review, management and analysis of major national datasets, statistical analysis and interpretation of results, and discussion of implications of the results in a professional manner suitable for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Experience in writing scientific articles for the various audiences.
? Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Excellent communication skills.
