Systems Programmer/Administrator (Programmer V)
Systems Programmer/Administrator (Programmer V) at Center for Geotechnical Modeling, UC Davis. $4,209.00 - $7,155.00/Mo. This position is responsible for upgrading, integrating and administering the local area network (LAN) at the CGM (nees.ucdavis.edu). The LAN includes 3 Unix and 2 Windows servers, 6 switched video servers, about 10 desktop and 10 data acquisition windows machines, interacting on both the Internet2 Gigabit network and the campus commodity network. Act as the lead IT expert for the center and recommend allocations of the annual IT budget to meet facility operational needs. Train and supervise researchers on the use of IT equipment at the site, including advanced PC-based data acquisition systems. Perform IT project management for the site, including identifying potential projects, helping set priorities for the Center, and leading projects through development. Project management will include selecting and supervising external contractors. The position requires extensive knowledge in computer science or computer systems engineering demonstrated through education or equivalent experience. Experience in IT project management, including allocation of operating budget to meet operational needs. Experience working with developers, including developing scope of work and evaluating work product. Experience in the design, development, installation, configuration, administration, and integration and security of local area networks including routers, switches, software, servers and interfaces to and for data, video, files, etc. Experience administering a complex local area network, including both fiber, copper, and wireless applications and including back-up systems and file storage/archives. Skills to assess and select/develop telepresence hardware and software, including specialized applications.
