Performance Responsibilities
Under general supervision, to provide Web design and multimedia programming/development support for a variety of campus programs/projects; work closely with other staff in the development and presentation of online courses and other campus Web-based applications; and to perform other related job duties as assigned.
This is the journey level position in the Web developer (designer) series, performing more complex and skilled technical work, including analysis and synthesis; requires skill and experience in high end graphic design principles for the Web, including audio and video streaming, programming, engineering and multimedia aspects; may lead the work of lower level technicians and train other staff.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
- Create enhancements and modifications to web sites; organize and maintain sites.
- Create image links and ensure that all links are updated; update information on Web pages and databases to maintain current content.
- Work closely with other faculty and other staff in the development and presentation of online courses and other campus-based Web applications.
- Assist in providing online, server, and workstation support to college faculty and staff in the development and operation of Web-based courses.
- Assist faculty with the planning and development of Web-based course outlines.
- Assist in developing and implementing technical processes and procedures to facilitate online instruction.
- Create, program, and maintain campus wide Web-based applications.
- Assist in the implementation and training of faculty and staff in the use of campus-wide Web-based applications.
- Assist in the design and development of Internet-based instruction and training.
- Use database transaction tools to link campus and District databases to the World Wide Web.
- Create and maintain database systems.
- Analyze network traffic and assist in the extraction, analysis and interpretation of Web usage statistics.
- Perform or assist in the conduct of analysis, design, and development of Web-based applications.
- Develop, design, code, test, debug, and document complex Web-based applications.
- Lead or oversee the work of lower level staff as assigned.
- Perform other related job duties as assigned. ?
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge of:
1. Personal computer workstations, PC and/or operating systems, and server operations.
2. Network operating systems, Web browsing and enhancement tools, utilities and applications.
3. Web server functions, configuration tools, and procedures.
4. Web authoring tools, including current Web languages such as HTML, DHTML, CGI, JAVA, and Javascript.
5. Web-based content and procedures for providing access to online students through the Internet, Intranets or Extranets in an effective manner.
6. Editing, publishing and modifying Web content.
7. Database connectivity tools to put database content on the Web.
8. Course management software, such as WebCT or TopClass.
9. ADA specifications for Web page development and the tools to assist in checking compliances.
10. Unix operating system.
Ability to:
11. Design Web sites to effectively meet the online curriculum needs of the college, ensuring that technical aspects meet the instructional component needs.
12. Install, configure, and use a variety of microcomputer software packages, particularly those related to Web site development and maintenance.
13. Assist in configuration of servers to work with Web authoring tools and to store and access Web-based content.
14. Edit, publish, modify, update, and maintain Web content.
15. Use database connectivity tools such as ColdFusion or ASP to interact with other online databases of the college and/or district to format dynamic content for the Web.
16. Work within a Unix work environment.
17. Develop, design, code, test, debug, maintain, and document complex Web-based applications and database systems.
18. Use ADA specifications in website design and development.
19. Assist in the extraction, analysis and interpretation of Web usage statistics.
20. Translate administrative objectives into the appropriate Web-based applications.
21. Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Education/Experience:
22. Completion of at least two years college level course work in related subject areas.
23. At least two years of full-time experience in Web design and maintenance, providing technical curriculum support for distance learning, or other online educational support, or other related area.
24. Or, any combination of education and experience that would provide the required qualifications. ?
Desired Qualifications
- The ability to assess new standards, technologies and trends, and formulate strategies and plans for future Web site enhancements.
- The ability to program HTML and upload pages to the Web sites.
- The ability to ensure that Web sites are accessible from a variety of environments.
- The ability to produce a consistent visual image on the Web site, including maintenance of templates and image archives.
- The knowledge and ability to deliver images at sufficient high speed and quality. ?
Conditions of Employment
This is a regular, full time, 12-month position. The normal hours of work are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor. ?

Pay Philosophy
Starting salaries for support staff positions begin at Step-1 of the salary range. The first salary advancement is at the end of the 6-month probationary period. Further advancements are on an annual basis.
Starting salaries for management and supervisory positions are based on a combination of education, qualifications and experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range. Further advancements are based on initial salary placement.
Starting salaries for academic positions are based on a combination of education and experience. Initial placement is within the starting salary range. Further advancements are based on longevity and professional development. An additional annual stipend is offered for possession of an earned doctorate from an accredited institution. ?

Benefits:
The District provides a comprehensive benefit program effective the first calendar day of the month following the first day of regular employment. Dental and vision care plans for employees and dependents, and life insurance and income protection plans for employees are fully paid by the District. A variety of medical plans covering employees and their dependents are available, with the District paying the major portion of the cost. Other liberal benefits include, on an annual basis: vacation, 12 days the first year; sick leave, 12 days; holidays, averaging 12 days. Employees participate in both the Public Employees Retirement System and Social Security. ?
