AS/400 System Administrator

Purpose: Primary support role for SCAN core Healthcare Information System. The individual ensures critical support and maintenance are provided.

Responsibilities:
Provides daily administration of AS/400 system functions. Performs all AS/400 system maintenance processes including OS/400 patches (PTFs) as necessary. Interacts with other MIS staff to ensure daily operational needs are met. Document and maintains policies and procedures related to AS/400 systems administration and related applications. Provides first-tier support from the SCAN Help Desk on all matters related to AS/400 operation and related applications. Ensures all backup and archive processes are performed in a manner that support Disaster Recovery preparedness. Monitors system performance on a daily basis. Accomplishes the assigned project and be responsible to identifying the project elements and time line. Facilitates all security functions for the AS/400 such as Account creation and administration. Troubleshoots any problems or issues with associated databases including DB2 and transactions with external SQL databases. Maintains data integrity. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Management of Information Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent experience. At least five years experience as an AS/400 Systems Administrator. Requires very strong interpersonal skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Requires the ability to communicate and work with people regardless of their technical level in order to interface with management and the end-user community. Requires strong analytical skills, and a demonstrated capability for strategic thinking and planning for short- and long-range goals. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Must be detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Must have an understanding of security from a high level perspective related to AS/400 systems. Experience with and extensive knowledge of computer and network security principles and procedures in a multi-platform computing environment is a plus. Strong understanding of iSeries AS/400 hardware including hands-on implementation experience. Some experience using scripting languages for system automation.
