Digital Cable Headend Field Service Engineer

Our client is a hi tech company that develops hardware and software for digital video applications. 

Aavalar has been contracted to search for a systems analyst who will be in charge of the design of digital video systems. 

 

The person who gets this job will probably be a cable industry 'insider' and will probably have worked for companies like Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications, Panasonic, Scientific Atlanta, Motorola, Liberate, Vidiom, S&T, Unisoft, etc.

Consultant's Title: Digital Cable Headend Field Service Engineer

 

Work Location: South Central New Jersey

 

Is Telecommuting possible?  No

 

Work environment : Office and significant travel around the US to customer sites

 

Who does this position will report to?: General Manager

 

Why is there a need for a consultant/contractor?  Company is ramping up

 

What is the start date of the contract?: ASAP

 

What is the anticipated length/scope of the contract?: Long term to permanent

 

What is the size of department?:  TBD

 

Responsibilities:

> Provide first-line support for digital cable products at cable system operators sites.

> Support field trials, deployment, and handle customer calls.

> Analyze trouble reports and propose solutions.

> Position requires significant US travel.

 

Role with the group : Individual contributor

 

Required Skills:

> BS/AS or equivalent in technical field plus 7 years experience.

> Formal training in digital cable system operation

> Experience with DOCSIS and cable modem termination systems (CMTS)

> Installation, operation, and maintenance of digital cable set-top boxes

> Operation of cable system RF test and measurement instruments

> Customer-facing field service experience

 

Desired Skills:

> Experience with Motorola Digicipher (DCII) cable systems

> Digital cable headend operating experience

> Operation/maintenance of interactive cable features (Video On Demand, etc)

> Familiarity with provisioning, billing and conditional access systems

> Analog cable system maintenance/troubleshooting

Salary if hired on a full time basis:  Up to low $80+K range depending on experience
