POSITION TITLE: Jr. Hardware Installation Technician (MTMC-WISATS Contract)

LOCATION:  SDDC HQ, Alexandria, VA



POSITION STATUS: Full-Time: Non-Exempt, Hourly

ESSENTIAL AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:

All areas of responsibility listed below are essential to the satisfactory performance of this position, with reasonable accommodation, if necessary.  Work responsibilities may vary, depending upon assignment.  A major function of this job is lifting and moving network equipment (10lbs to 50lbs) in a timely fashion as required by the customer.

GENERAL FUNCTION:

? Must possess an active DoD security clearance at the SECRET level.

? Will provide courteous customer service to the end-user community all times, either in person or over the phone.

? Assist the Sr H/W Installation Tech and/or System Administrators in providing support for networked microcomputers and database systems in accordance with the contract Performance Work Statement/Statement of Work as follows:

o  Conduct site surveys; assess and document current site network configuration and user requirements.

o  Design and optimize network topologies.

o  Analyze existing requirements and prepare specifications for hardware acquisitions.

o  Prepare engineering plans and site installation Technical Design Packages.

o  Develop hardware installation schedules.

o  Prepare drawings documenting configuration changes at each site.

o  Prepare site installation and test reports.

o  Configure computers, communication devices, and peripheral equipment.

o  Install network hardware.

o  Train site personnel in proper use of hardware.

o  Build specialized interconnecting cables.

? Provide knowledge and experience in one or more discipline or procedures including:

o  Hardware installation and repair

o  Calibrating and modifying electronic equipment.

o  Unpacking, inspection, test and configuration of electronic equipment.

o  Perform trouble shooting functions to determine equipment operability.

o  Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade Microsoft (MS) Windows Operating Systems (i.e. 2000 O/S Professional and Standard; MS Windows XP, and MS Windows 97).

o  Install, configure, upgrade MS Office Product Suites 2000/XP/97, Standard and Professional applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, MS Project); and MS Internet Explorer ver 5.x and 6.x.

o  Install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot and upgrade personal computers and accessories; and customer specific software applications, including Lotus Notes and CorelDraw.

? Respond to issues on tickets opened by the Help Desk (Tiers 1/2) within two hours.

? Assist Tier I technicians when required to troubleshoot end user issues.

? Direct and train users in the operation of new operating systems and work stations.

? Stay abreast of the latest developments in MIS technology and remain technically proficient at all levels of data processing while striving for enhanced user productivity through implementation of new software technology where applicable, and the implementation of policies that more effectively utilize MIS resources.

? Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships with co-workers, contractor personnel and customers.

? Maintain continuous liaison with users and project staff to identify unique and/or common difficulties and prepare plans for their resolution.

? Read, understand and comply with most recent Contract/Task Order Statement of Work and Contract Deliverables.  The Statement of Work may include other task requirements not included in this position description.

? Follow policies and procedures as described in corporate manuals and directives.

? Attend work each day during scheduled work hours unless on approved time off.

? Perform occasional travel to contractor and customer sites, as required (see WORKING CONDITIONS below).

? Work flexible hours, including occasional overtime.

? Carry out other duties as may be assigned or requested.

WORKING CONDITIONS

? Occasional travel within CONUS is required.

? Work is performed indoors with some potential risks to safety and health hazards related to electronics and/or electrical equipment.

? May be required to work outdoors under adverse working conditions; i.e., inclement weather (heat, rain, sleet, snow).

? May be required to work outdoors on piers, aboard ships/barges/vessels, in warehouses and/or trailers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certifications/Experience/Skills:

? Possess High School Diploma and three (3) years of specific experience in providing support for networked microcomputer and database security systems.

? Possess documented Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) certification; Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) (Workstation), A+ Certification, or equivalent.

? Must have relevant applicable experience as related to the General Functions listed in this position description.

? Demonstrated experience with multiple environments at the desktop level.

? Must possess strong analytical skills and effective interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a variety of users having different levels of computer expertise.  Ability to design workable solutions to problems in a timely manner.

? Skill in identifying and monitoring potential operational malfunctions.

? Skill in installing and maintaining computer hardware and software.

? Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other technical staff, customers, and users.

? Ability to respond quickly and effectively to uncertainty and constant changes in technology.

Physical Skills And Abilities:

? Depending on the assignment may require ordinary, ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations.

? Requires the ability to manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds.

? Requires good hand-eye coordination; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and use a keyboard and mouse.

? Requires visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information.
