LAN Support Specialist

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The person in this position will install court information systems computer equipment for users in local and remote locations, install or coordinate the installation of local area networks; advise and assist elected officials in the placement of equipment with regard to workflow; diagnose and locate the source of reported computer equipment problems; make needed repair on-site or assist vendor maintenance engineers in correcting problems; maintain current systems configuration diagrams; provide inventory information of computer equipment and computer supplies to Equipment Coordinator and conduct periodic physical inventories; coordinate and schedule system availability with hardware vendor field engineers in the maintenance, repair and upgrade of the AOC's computer equipment; and provide emergency support to remote and local court users who experience equipment problems by taking replacement peripheral or communication units to the site and picking up the defective units. In addition, this person will advise county building maintenance personnel about necessary preparations for the installation of computer equipment; work within a timetable consistent with the CIS implementation schedule; customize local site control units to reflect on-site equipment; and set configuration switches.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:  Requires knowledge of the operation of computers and related peripheral devices; SNA Cluster Controllers-peripherals, data networks and related communications equipment and lines; HVAC, elevator, electrical, plumbing, and other facility systems; operations of telephone switches and cabling; and an understanding of PC systems and local area networks. 

 

BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from a four year college or university with a major in computer science or related technical field, and three years experience in the appropriate field of electronic data processing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
