SENIOR INTERNETWORKING ENGINEER

Position Summary

Manages projects, and other related activities including the research and monitoring of technological trends and directions, and the analysis of the organizations use of IT to identify technological opportunities to support corporate and client areas short and long range plans and objectives

The Internetworking Design and Management group is responsible for directing the research and management and monitoring of technological trends and directions with respect to the internetworking of the company?s network infrastructure with Business partners, Participant networks and the Campus network infrastructures, ensuring the highest security, availability and performance of the company network. This group performs the analysis and design and engineering of the network and management systems infrastructures.  Provide 3rd level support of the company?s production and development networks including management systems; and supports the Production and disaster Data Centers

 

Principal Responsibilities
Assists in the analysis of firm-wide business area requirements needed to support long-range business objectives and the evaluation of the technological environment.
Responsible for design and implementation of company network infrastructure, network system upgrades and installations (IOS and OS).
Assists in the introduction of new technology. 
Produces project plans to implement system installs and upgrades, and is expected to manage the project on a day-to-day basis.
Prepares activity and progress reports on activities of section.
Typically works on multiple projects simultaneously.
Has responsibility for exploring new emerging technologies, working with vendors, and internal users to insure that systems are meeting the user requirements.
Prepares recommendations for network enhancements and upgrades, maintains standards, documentation and procedures for the production and disaster recovery networks.
Manages the availability, performance and capacity planning for the network. 
Provides support and training to junior staff members and other departments. 
Receives general supervision and is competent to work on own for several technology research phases and requires only general direction for other phases. 
Supports research projects to identify and evaluate emerging technologies and technical and functional evaluations of the organization's use of technology. 
Advises IT management and staff on how these opportunities can support business area requirements. 
Assists in the development of technology evaluation and selection criteria and the actions required to implement new technology. 
Develops contacts with external industry groups, technology and business area planners and participates in presentations of trends and directions to corporate management.  Performs related duties as assigned or requested

 

Experience 
5+ years technical experience with networking technologies and management systems
Experience with internetworking WAN and LAN environments, and the associated hardware and software solutions, protocols, operating systems and data communications techniques
Experience with carrier services and protocols
Hands on LAN architecture experience

Proficient with the management, internetworking design and implementation of networks
Competency in WAN/LAN topologies and legacy protocols and networking technologies
Extensive communications hardware background
Detailed knowledge of WAN/LAN test and diagnostic equipment
Proficient in PC operating system platforms: UNIX/AIX/NT
Familiarity with firewall infrastructures and traffic filtering(ACL)

 

Education, Training or Certification
