Sr Unix Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY: Currently we have an excellent career opportunity for a Senior Unix Engineer in the Client Technical Services Department of Combined Insurance Company of America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aon Corporation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Maintains and upgrades Unix hardware including disks, processors and memory. Plans and coordinates configuration and testing prior to implementation of all Unix systems. Consults customers, DBA's, operators in defining needs and designs appropriate solutions and completes their requests. Maintains knowledge of storage and Unix related software hardware products as well as industry trends in Unix areas. Initiates new technology inside the enterprise. perform other duties such as project management and mentoring other Unix administrators.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 5-8 years previous Unix administration. Excellent knowledge of Unix operating systems and TCP/IP ethernet data networks, expertise in storage planning and analysis and backup/recovery administration, expertise in Unix shell/Perl scripting, expertise in performance, capacity and security analysis of Unix systems. Knowledge of database servers such as Oracle, knowledge of desktop productivity software (Spreadsheet, Word Processing, Data Management, and Graphics), expertise in Sun hardware and Solaris, interactions with all levels of CSG, user community and vendors.
