Department Description

Primarily responsible for writing, analyzing and reviewing test plans, writing and performing test procedures and writing test reports. Develop, manage and track requirements. Must possess good troubleshooting abilities from component to system level. Be able to make suggestions for changes to test plans from other functional groups to aid in fully testing the systems. Must be able to assist in evaluating new hardware and software designs for any potential errors, and also will be required to assist in locating problems on either hardware or software. The ability to write test scripts keep logs of system defects and integrate new systems and software is required. Be able to be flexible in shifting work priorities. Assist in providing training to internal engineers and internal customer engineering. Set-up and run equipment demos when required.

Typical Work Involves:

1. Assist in writing and running productions Automated Test Procedures.

2. Isolate software and hardware problems with minimum supervision

3. Assist in troubleshooting hardware problems

4. Setup hardware, boards, connectors, and OSes with minimum supervision

5. Write test scripts to test the functionality of different products.

6. Assist in writing new test procedures.

7. Communicate with Engineers and Program Managers to ensure that programs are running on schedule.

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations

The System Validation Test Engineer must have Software and Hardware experience preferably in embedded systems. Successful candidates will have BS in Electrical Engineering/Computer Science with at least 5 years embedded systems background in design and development of application software/firmware. Working knowledge of microprocessor/microcontroller architecture, knowledge in DSP application programming a plus.

The role will involve performing hardware/software interoperability testing, and validation involving third-party tools. Automating test cases, Testing Linux Kernels and Applications on embedded targets. This will also include requirement traceability validation with respect to use cases specified in requirement specification documentations.

The engineer will also perform integration, compatibility and system level testing of products that include performance testing and ease of use feedback.



Specific Knowledge/Skills

5 years of directly applicable experience. 4 year degree (BSCE, BSEE) preferred. Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux/Windows and Assembly/C/C++/Perl/Java programming. Possess good communication and written skills. Have good troubleshooting abilities from system to component level. Working experience with microprocessor and microcontrollers preferably with the following family of Microprocessors ARM, ePPC, DSP/StarCore and ColdFire. Knowledge of Real Time Operating systems (RTOS) and embedded Linux. Experience with Test automation software is preferred.
