WAN Engineer III

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The person in this position will understand, analyze, and make recommendations related to all enterprise network design and associated security risks and strengths; assistant WAN and LAN architectural design personnel in all areas of enterprise network design, ensuring conformance to AOC security policy; design, implement, monitor and maintain the AOC Enterprise Internet Portal Firewall, the AOC Virtual Private Network (VPN) based technologies; design, implement and monitor AOC network and host-based intrusion detection systems (IDS) with the goal of preventing network security breaches; design, implement and maintain a secure Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (email), Internet and Intranet Domain Name Service (DNS) infrastructure, Internet and Intranet File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Internet Portal SMTP and Internet content and anti-virus technologies; report to management regularly the status of the network security in the AOC enterprise environment; occasionally travel to remote sites to ensure proper working order of equipment or facilitate system changes; and modifies and tunes vendor supplied software and hardware.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Position requires academic knowledge of field experience with TCP/IP protocols and addressing, firewall technologies, encryption technologies (IPSec VPN, 3DES, MD5, SSH/SSL, AES etc.), dynamic and static multi-protocol routing and routing technologies, and broad exposure to and experience with network switching technologies.  This position requires high-level WAN engineering skills to include full working knowledge of SNA, Frame-Relay, VoIP, DSL, Wireless, Analog and Internet connectivity technologies.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from a four year college or university with major course work in computer science, information technology, or related field and four years of related work experience; or graduation from a technical school with a major in a computer science field and five years of experience in the computer science field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
