Job Description

The Application Architect will be responsible for working with a portfolio of EMC partner organizations, both to evaluate applications designed for EMC software platforms and to provide guidance to formative partner application development projects. This person will work closely with individuals across our Products organization to bring appropriate expertise to bear on the application design and development efforts of our partners. A key responsibility will be to build close, trusting relationships with our partners by delivering high-quality services in a consultative manner. The Application Architect is a key player in our strategic application program and provides technical leadership across our organization.



Based on Level of Position, Responsibilities May Include:



Generate high-quality review documentation such as reviews, design opinions, architectural and process flow diagrams.

Lead a cross-functional team of technical resources through structured application analysis processes.

Provide architectural design reviews and recommendation services.

Provide leadership to EMC product organizations around partner engagements in the context of EMC developer programs.

Communicate status of assignments accurately clearly and accurately to management.

Develop strong working relationships across our partner base and within EMC Software Group.

Conduct self-directed research to understand customer needs, identify and evaluate potential approaches, and select or create solutions to satisfy those needs.

Examine and evaluate external research from universities, standards organizations, and competitors, to learn and to improve EMC's product offerings and market position.

Periodic travel required.

Based on Level of Position, Qualifications May Include:


8 years experience minimum.

Bachelors degree required, MS degree or PhD preferred.

Experience in conducting research on difficult technical problems.

Excellent written and oral communication of technical concepts.

Superior interpersonal skills.

Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments well.

Able to work independently as well as in concert with a cross-functional team.

For advanced levels:


3-5 years experience with Documentum 5 product suite, APIs and development environments.

3-5 years Consulting, systems integration or software development experience.

Experience with design of Documentum-based solutions and technical architectures.

Experience with formal structured design, development and testing techniques.

Strong working knowledge of Java, VB, SQL and XML technologies.

Knowledge of development methodologies, GUI development and web architectures.

Knowledge of SQL Server/Oracle internals, Unix and NT operating systems preferred.

Knowledge of Web Services standards and application usage scenarios.
