Application Developer II

This is an individual and team contributor providing technical and business knowledge to application development and enhancement projects utilizing current computing architectures. Has principal responsibility for creative programming and related maintenance of the Reference Laboratories computer systems and applications and participates in all phases of the system development cycle.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

? Design, develop, implement, and maintain .net and java based applications and other applications in other technologies.
? Assist in the design effort and provide work estimates.
? Design, code and test software with limited supervision.
? Follow all appropriate design, development, and testing specifications.
? Collaborate with IPS team members and internal customers to define customer requirements and system interfaces.
? Assess available technologies, and develop and present solutions.
? Perform or integrate work at a medium level of complexity, and work in-depth within a technical or business area.
? Identify business problems and implements programming solutions in functional project environments.
? Ability to leverage a background in technologies as well as an understanding of the latest technologies and their impact on product development.
? Procedural and Object Oriented design.
? Program in Dot Net and/or Java, Visual Basic and other object oriented and procedural programming languages.
? Analyze, debug & resolve medium-complexity application software problems.
? Interface design / implementation.
? SQL coding.
? System integration design and development.
? Provide standard documentation for all phases of application development.
? Ability to interact at appropriate levels via telephone and other conferencing systems with a variety of internal (IDEXX employees) and external Customers (Veterinarians, Veterinary Practice Staff, 3rd Party Practice Information Management System (PIMS) Vendor Staff)
? Understand the business function(s) supported by the application software.
? Provide a high level of customer service, partner with end-users in the resolution of application problems or in the deployment of new software applications.
? Provide effort and duration estimates, and track actual effort and duration.


Requirements:

EDUCATION: Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science required or equivalent technical training and work experience.

EXPERIENCE: Three years experience in system development, two years experience developing in current area of expertise.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
? In-depth knowledge of the following client -side and server-side Web technologies: W3C Web standards and specifications, HTML, CSS, HTTP / HTTPS, XML/XSL, Active-X, DOM, Perl, Java, .Net, VB (including the full life cycle development experience in Java development), JavaScript, Java Applets, and J2EE (JSPs, Servlets, and EJBs).
? RDBMS design experience.
? Experience with portal software preferred.
? Experience in the design and implementation of Web Applications Strong Knowledge of Procedural and Object Oriented programming techniques.
? Strong demonstrated problem-solving skills.
? Minimum 3 years experience in application development and with all phases of system development life cycle.
? Experience with major Database Management Systems.
? Ability to work in a team environment.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
? ABAP and SAP R/3 knowledge optional
? Customer Call Center or Help Desk background optional
