BB 7 Upgrade Software Engineer

Our current content management systems make extensive use of Blackboard (see blackboard.com for more details) to provide key services, such as enrollment, grade book, and some primitive content types. We plan on upgrading from Blackboard 6.3 to 7.0. The successful candidate has approximately one year to migrate our code to the new release and deploy that release to our production environment. In addition to strong J2EE skills, this candidate will have a capacity for dissecting existing software systems, the ability to analyze the impact of API changes on our code, some background in system administration, and some project management experience. This will be a high-impact, high visibility position, and candidates should be prepared to see this project through completion. Experience with Blackboard is not required.

Key responsibilities of this challenging opportunity include:

Work with Product Managers to refine requirements.
Design, Code and unit tests new features.
Serve as technical lead for offshore development projects.
Review deliverables from offshore team.
Careful analysis and planning of code base closely bound to third party specifications.
Ability to diagnose defects in third party interfaces.


Qualifications: (All of the following)
Minimum
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
2+ years developing applications using J2EE technologies: Java, Tomcat 5.5
2+ years developing robust, scalable n-tier applications.
1+ years experience in using one of the following technologies: Hibernate, Spring, Struts, or JSF.
Appropriate experience in XML and SQL, and configuration management.


Additional Qualifications. (any of the following)
Bachelors degree or better in Mathematics., Post-secondary teaching experience.
Experience in any of Maplesoft, MathLab, WebEq
1+ years experience managing and deploying applications in complex hosting environments on Redhat Linux and Windows 2000/XP.
1+years experience administering Oracle 9i or Oracle 10g.
1+ year experience integrating Flash applications into larger web applications.
