Business Intelligence Software Sales Engineer - Mainframe Background

Located in the heart of New York City, Information Builders is one of the largest independent software companies in the world and the largest software company located in Silicon Alley. The Sales Engineer will act as an evangelist to assist the sales team in communicating IBI products and services. S/he must have strong presentation skills and be comfortable presenting business solutions to senior level executives as well as understanding the technology in order to work with engineers. S/he will work with the Sales Reps in all stages of the sales process, including, performing demonstrations to CIOs/executives, responding to proof of concepts, performing architecture designs and conducting implementation discussions to ensure superior client service.

Duties and Responsibilities: Pre-sales activities are designed to lead the sales and/or lease of roducts offered by Information Builders and are performed during the sales calls, seminars, benchmarks, etc. The Sales Engineer must be able to perform the following duties: - Understand and explain the features and benefits of IBI products and services. - Compare and explain FOCUS and EDA features and other IBI products and services to those of the leading competitors. - Effectively demonstrate the functionality of IBI's products. - Integrate prospect needs with IBI products. - Prepare and deliver formal presentations. - Act as project leader in the development of benchmarks, proposals, and other pre-sales activities. - Assist the Branch Technical Manager to monitor and evaluate new trials of FOCUS, EDA and other IBI products. - Coordinate and/or generate benchmarks, which will present the strengths of FOCUS, EDA and other IBI product offerings.

Post-sales activities are designed to lead to continued and expanded use of FOCUS, EDA and other IBI products and services including our EAI products. Position will involve assisting sales, development of good references, creation of customer satisfaction, and enhancement of IBI's image as a service organization. - Prepare and teach standard and customized classes. - Develop successful implementation plans, and lead customers through them. Be actively involved during initial projects and prototypes. - Coordinate IBI resources towards timely resolution of problems and opportunities. Anticipate areas in which extensive knowledge may be required. - Review activity and recommend additional and/or alternative actions for special accounts (e.g., references, sensitive situations). - Facilitate the resolution of complex technical problems related to FOCUS and other IBI products. - Contact clients regularly in order to identify opportunities and to secure customer satisfaction. - Report client status and personal activities according to branch and corporate standards.

Other responsibilities include: - Clearly communicate pertinent/significant information to appropriate team members. - Portray a professional image and present IBI as a service oriented organization. - Possess and continue to develop in-depth knowledge of competitive products, and industry trends. - Possess and continue to build an understanding of sales, and take increased responsibilities for tasks within the sales cycle. - Investigate new IBI products and features and "package" them into marketable entities. - Work directly with various levels of people including Sales, Engineering, Professional Services and Customer Support on a daily basis.

Job Qualifications: College degree or equivalent. 3-5 years Sales Engineer experience. Strong background working with Mainframe and/or EAI products. Extensive experience working with Sales on a regular basis required. Solution selling/proposal writing experience is a must. Understanding of Business Intelligence preferred. Working knowledge of several operating systems, including VM/CMS, MVS/TSO. VAX/VMS, MPE/XL, UNIX, TANDEM/Guardian, and/or OS/400, Windows 95/NT preferred. Programming experience in 3GL and 4GL preferred. Understanding of IBI's product lines preferred. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to travel. Drivers license. Required Skills Ability to quickly isolate and solve complex technical problems. Excellent interpersonal skills. Leadership ability. Ability to delegate, monitor, and critique the work of others. Ability to prioritize tasks. Ability to identify critical situations and to clearly communicate them to others. Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision. Must be success oriented. Ability to work well with sales, technical staff and senior level decision makers.
