Computer Operations Manager

We are pleased to partner with a leading Houston-based distributor of packaging in seeking a Computer Operations Manager for AS400 (i-Series) This is a  full-time salaried position.

This company is replacing a legacy system with As400 i series, and needs somebody to manage the entire operations department. II. Purpose of Position:

 

Directs and manages the scheduling and operation of all computers processing for production systems for a multi-site and multi-shift operating environment and provides efficient, effective, and timely service to users of the computer systems. Also directs and manages the technical support efforts for all local and wide area networks and voice communication, alone with system hardware, software and system security.

 

II. Principle Duties:

 

?  Responsible for managing computer operations personnel and equipment.

 

?  Budget responsibilities for computers and telephone equipment, operating system software, network equipment and software, computer supplies, and outside contractors.

 

?  Develop and maintains Disaster Recovery Plan.

 

?  Manages ?Help Desk? support activities to ensure user service needs are being met.

 

?  Evaluates computer hardware and system software vendor proposals.

 

?  Ensures computer equipment is properly maintained and serviced.

 

?  Evaluates, selects, and implements software packages to improve efficiency.

 

?  Prepares activity and progress reports for hardware and software installations performed by both outside contractors and internal staff.

 

 

?  Monitors and reports on system and network performance.

 

?  Assists in the development of department standards.

 

?  Plans, coordinates and implements new EDI transaction sets required by customers and suppliers.

 

?  Supports production Electronic Commerce functions.

 

?  Prepares project plans as well as progress reports.

 

 

III. Job Specifications:

 

A. Education

 

Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or other related field preferred.

 

  B.  Knowledge

 

 Minimum 5 years of computer operations experience with increasing supervisory responsibilities, supporting multi-site, multi-shift environment. Excellent communication and customer service skills required.

 

Experience managing computer operations in an AS400 environment, supporting 50+ remote sites and 1000+ end users

 

Experience in a warehousing, distribution, or manufacturing environment

 

C. Responsibility for:

 

1.  Managing a budget approaching $1 mil.

 

2.  Managing  4 Computer Operators/Network Support personnel

 

3. Managing computer operations for 72+ remote sites and 1200+ end users
