Database Administrator ? Outsourcing

 

The Database Administrator/Operator is a key member of the Outsourcing team and provides database engineering and day-to day administrative support for the P&H ASP/Outsourcing production environment.  The DBA/O works with Product Development, Operations, Implementation and Systems Engineering to load, apply and implement patches and upgrades in test and production environment.  The DBA/O will devise, implement and maintain plans/tools for performance monitoring and database reporting.  The DBA/O will also be involved with the setting up and testing of individual customer schemas and troubleshooting production issues on the ASP/Outsourcing production environment.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility:

* Operations

  - Maintain all Test and Production Oracle databases

  - Work with first and second tier support to troubleshoot issues as related to the Oracle environment

  - Develop scripts and utilities to maintain production databases for day-to-day backups, alerts, etc

  - Install and maintain individual customer schemas for P&H outsourced customers

  - Use Oracle or third party tools for monitoring the Oracle environment for optimal performance

  - Monitor resource usage and proactively plan for future growth and anticipated loads

  - Implement and follow security procedures

*Provide DBO across internal P&H DB servers

 

Required Skills:

* BS in Computer Science or equivalent

* Working knowledge of Windows 2000, AIX and Sun Solaris 8.0

* Exposure to Iplanet, Weblogin, Websphere as they relate to Oracle

* Exposure to Client Server Architecture

 

Areas of Knowledge/Experience:

* 1-2 years Oracle Database experience in a high availability environment

* 1-2 years development experience, strong PL/SQL skills, Oracle 8i, 9i  (10G a plus)

* Knowledge of monitoring tools like OEM (Oracle Enterprise Manager) for monitoring and performance tuning

* Performance tuning of the database

* PL/SQL stored procedures, triggers and shell scripts

* Net8 and Net9 features and security in a web based environment

* Familiar with data modeling tools (e.g. ERwin)

* Basic Unix shell scripting

* Experience in supporting mission-critical, high-availability databases

* Exposure to DataGuard would be a plus

Additional Comments:

* This position requires on-call (off-hour and weekend) support for the application databases.
