The Director of Engineering will be an executive management position reporting to the CEO, responsible for leading Valen's engineering organization.  This candidate will manage the engineering staff, with responsiblities for the delivery of features to support Valen's product and services offerings.

 

Critical Success Factors:



1) Deliver and deploy Valen?s tools in a Software as a Service (SaaS) architecture.

2) Improve Engineering software delivery processes and improve our ability to track delivery metrics

3) Improve Quality Assurance capabilities.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

?  Lead Engineering Organization

o Motivate and lead Valen's highly experienced engineering team in achieving Valen's goals.

? Strategic Contribution

o Actively participate in Valen's management team, help to set Valen's strategic direction.

? Deliver product and services roadmap

o Responsible for delivery of product features

o Work closely with product management to define deliverables and timelines

o Deliver features to support services organization

? Organizational Development

o Identify career growth opportunities within the engineering group.

o Define and manage the engineering organizational road map

? Technology Implementation Ownership

o Lead the technology strategy as it relates to engineering feature development.

o Keep abreast of "best of breed" software architecture strategies.

 

 

Required Skills / Experience:

Essential:

?  Leadership: Experience successfully leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams of 15+ people is required .

?  Technical Leadership Background: Deep experience with leading Java application development teams is required.

?  Proven track record of success developing quality software is required.

?  Small Company Experience: Experience and interest in a rapidly changing small company environment is preferred.

? Application Service Provider Experience: Familiarity delivering software in an ASP model is preferred.

?  Strong math/stats background, familiarity with predictive modeling and/or artificial intelligence is preferred.

 

Education:

? Bachelors Degree (Preferrably Technical) or equivalent experience is required.

? MBA ?  or technical post graduate degree, is preferred.
