Director of Server Platforms Engineering

The Director of Server Platforms Engineering will embody these values.

 

The Director of Server Platforms Engineering will lead a team of 40-50 highly talented and mission focused engineers and managers to architect, design, develop, customize/deploy, and maintain server platforms and applications as part ofour company's overall mobile web services offering.  The solution consists of a J2EE based server platform and applications thatare highly customizable and deployable for highly scalable telcom environments.

In addition, the team will be responsible for investigation and productization of technologies that enable the future direction of mobile web services. These areas include, but are not limited to: Advanced multimedia support, Location Based Services, Browser-like technologies, and Personalization. The Director is responsible for a enabling a significant amountof  business revenues.

The organization will be distributed globally with sites in Seattle, Sunnyvale, and Beijing. Teams will be composed of both permanent and contract staff engineers as well as third party system integrators. The Director will partner effectively with technology organizations both within and external to the company 

Specific responsibilities include:

? Plays major lead in defining the Functional Roadmap for all server side technologies, partnering closely with Product Management
? Direct cross functional and cross regional engineering programs.
? Develop and execute strategy to deliver to operator customers via both internal and external teams, partnering closely with network operations, program management, and account teams.
? Continue to evolve highly talented team to meet business objectives that include architecture, development, and deployment.
? Plan for and maintain adequate staffing levels in order to meet schedule, quality, and feature commitments.
? Responsible for all server software releases.
? Conducts project based inspections to ensure proper execution
? Maintains and/or improves quality metrics associated with server software deliveries
? Ensures server organization is sufficiently involved in cross-group activities.

? Career planning and development for team
? Mentoring and on-boarding of new hires
? Recruiting and HR Activities
? Regularly interact with Executive leadership with respect to strategy and roadmap discussions.

 

Required Technical Qualifications
? 10+ years experience developing commercial software products preferably for the mobile industry
? At least 5 years of experience as a leader of teams, and at least 3 years as manager of managers.
? Demonstrated execution focused mentality with ability to drive multiple simultaneous projects to successful completion on a consistent basis.
? Experience in designing and/or developing contemporary server software platforms built on J2EE for high performing environments. Experience in developing scalable web services platforms desired.
? Proven effectiveness in partnering and leveraging capability and resources across organizational boundaries.
? Proven ability to interact effectively with external telcom customers to discover, develop and customize, and ultimately deploy robust and scalable systems.

? Strong written, verbal, analytical, and interpersonal skills working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across a diverse set of cultural and geographic boundaries.
? Demonstrated ability to hire and retain a top performing team including architects, managers, and engineers.
? Strong expertise in a  relevant  technology domain. Such domains can include Mobile Web Services, Multimedia, Service Delivery Platforms and/or SOA. Experience in IMS and SIP based networks.
? Able to rapidly learn new technologies and determine applicability and relevance to business objectives

Other Desired Qualifications
? Masters or PhD Degree in Computer Science or related engineering discipline.
? Experience in thought leadership and consensus building across divisions of a large company.
? Willing to travel on occasion. Up to 25%.
