Business environment: hp invents.
This engineering role is base at hp Corvallis site.
Job Description
As part of the R&D team, help investigate, define, and implement the electrical subsystems of new product prototypes and related accessories. Tasks may include investigating and designing specific technology solutions, working with vendors to implement reference designs, and working with ODMs to implement whole systems. Because quality is important, defining, performing, and/or overseeing validation testing will be key to any effort, whether on internal designs or as part of system design with an ODM supplier, and may include working with internal technicians as well as outside test resources. Prototype products are complex systems, so it is necessary to work with a variety of electronics including complex or high-speed digital ICs, analog signals and sensing, power supplies, control systems, analog and digital I/Os, wireless communications, EMI/ESD, PCB layout, and firmware development. Demonstrated troubleshooting skills are important, as is the ability to work with other disciplines such as mechanical, optical, and software engineers. Innovation will be a key part of DVD's success, and requires a demonstrated ability to contribute and help develop new ideas.
Design, develop, modify, review, test and document hardware/firmware in a real-time environment. Write code for microprocessors for gaming devices, and use in-circuit emulators and other diagnostic tools to debug and test. Determine design approaches and parameters. Performs relatively complex engineering tasks under general supervision. Writes product documents. Interfaces with Marketing, Game Design, Product Assurance, Technical Compliance, Production, Customer Service and other Engineering departments to obtain product guidelines and constraints of firmware design. Performs complex hardware/firmware engineering work under minimal direction. Analyzes, develops and recommends design approaches. Resolves complicated issues and works on critical engineering problems and/or projects. Plans project approach and work involving a design problem solution or validation of a design theory. May evaluate current and future field implementations and recommend design modifications or enhancements to eliminate firmware design roadblocks, or improve the product performance. Plans and coordinates assigned engineering staff in design, development, operation, application, installation, and troubleshooting firmware products. Ensures product conforms to engineering design, regulatory and customer performance expectations. Interfaces with customers to handle customer issues. May provide input to assigned engineering team member's job performance, at the completion of assigned project, or at the time of team member's annual performance evaluation. Participate in design reviews and product testing, as assigned. Develop and review documentation, as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with systems emphasis.
Requirements for the successful candidate include:
- Three to five years hardware design experience including product life cycle execution: definition, simulation, breadboarding, design, system integration, verification, documentation, prototyping, debugging, testing, qualification, release to production, etc.;
- Fundamental knowledge of software for device drivers
- Knowledge of Perl, C ++, or other Windows programming
- Experience with micro-controllers, digital imaging, and color science, or video signal processing techniques, DSP and servo system design.
- Expertise in one or more of these areas: digital and analog design, system level architectural design, video and digital IO standards and hardware, computer audio/video connectivity, etc
- Experience in the coordination of electrical designs done elsewhere and integrating this work into products under development.
- CAD tools and methodologies:
Mentor, VHDL, Solid Designer, Verilog, SPICE, Pro/E, Pro/PDM, FPGA.
- Strong technical capabilities regarding problem-solving methodology is required
- Strong multi-functional teamwork capabilities is required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills is required
- Proven ability to work on simultaneous projects/problems of diverse complexity and scope
- Comfortable with working in a very dynamic, challenging (fast-paced) work environment
- Hands-on experience in building prototypes.
- Ability to network with outside design firms to enable rapid prototyping.
Highly Desired:
- Understanding of image processing for video signals
- Design of small low power electro-optical systems
- Exposure to hardware debugging in a lab environment
- Experience in consumer focused products
- Knowledge on Video/PC graphics / TV will be a plus.
- Experience with embedded systems
