Englewood - UNIX System Engineer

Job Description: POSITION SUMMARY: A dynamic, motivated, self-sufficient Unix expert for a Senior Unix Engineer position. This position is for somebody who understands the difference between engineering and operations as well as distinction between solutions design and simple technology deployments. The ability to independently analyze complex systems and provide remediation steps while balancing the needs of a fast-paced, revenue driven business is essential.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to engage IT project managers and customers (internal and/ or external) to drive, document, and refine technical requirements for projects and solutions
- Coordinate departmental and intra-departmental resources to ensure successful, on-time fulfillment of project / solution deliverables
- Design, implement, promote, and oversee adherence to Systems Engineering processes, procedures, best practices, and reference architectures in key disciplines : Unix Systems Management, Systems Instrumentation, System Security and Regulatory Compliance, Process Automation, Storage, Disaster Recovery
- Fulfill the roll of Subject Matter Expert (SME) In aforementioned disciplines by educating / mentoring junior staff and IT customers in providing product evaluation and comparative information upon request.

REQUIREMENTS:
- 5+ years experience Unix systems administration (AIX 5.X and Solaris 8, 9, 10, Red Hat Enterprise Linux)
- Oracle 10g RAC installation and configuration
- HACMP cluster configuration and administration
- LPRA configuration and administration
- Experience using NIM and JumpStart for automated system deployment
- Familiarity with SAN/NAS storage administration (EMC Control Center, DMX; Clariion) and software volume management (Veritas, LVM, GPFS)
- Strong shell/Perl programming abilities
- Experience with Disaster Recovery (DR) planning and data migration
- Familiarity with configuration and extension of systems/ network monitoring tools such as Nagios, OpenView, and SiteScope
- Assist Systems Operations groups with design and implementations of scripts, tools, and processes for automating collection and trending key system and application performance metrics.
