Graphic Designer

SUMMARY: 

Responsible for executing marketing tactics with a high level accuracy and effective design  conceptualization.  The Graphic Designer will work closely with others on the marketing team, including other designers, copywriters and marketing managers to critique own initial creative ideas, focusing attention on 2-3 specific concepts and presenting finalized ideas to Director Marketing Services  for critique and approval. The individual will be responsible for executing work on time and on budget, ensuring all projects are consistent with the corporate brand and identity.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Responsible for working with and expanding upon the visual identity for the organization. Responsible for graphically representing complex marketing concepts through the interplay of multiple elements (color, form, photography, etc.) from diverse sources. Is able to effectively communicate design strategies as they apply to the project?s and the company?s goals.  Creates innovative and complex design solutions using a combination of state-of-the-art computer graphics software and hardware.

2. Manages the design phase of each project assigned, including the development and execution of design creative for brochures, ads, flyers, newsletters, posters, banners, booth graphics etc. with an understanding towards an ?integrated? approach to marketing.  Projects include all marketing materials, media packaging, catalogs, conference materials, newsletters, and exhibit/signage materials, etc.

3. Creates electronic graphics and pages for Web pages and other e-publishing formats. Is responsible for staying current with and exploring the latest technology.

4. Creates illustrations, graphics, and charts by traditional methods and by using computer drawing programs.

5. Manages freelance photographers and illustrators when needed for publications, including reviewing portfolios, recommending artist to hire, supplying thumbnail sketches, determining photographic or artistic effects, and overseeing art preparation.

6. Interfaces with vendors to communicate project information and solve production problems. Evaluates vendor's performance at job completion and recommends best vendors to handle new projects.

7. Works to comply within Cochlear?s policy?s and procedures meeting regulatory guidelines

8. Keeps informed on company products, advances and pertinent competitive activities and materials

9. Performs other duties as required.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education

College degree in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Visual Communications or comparable program

 

Experience

Minimum 8 years professional experience in a graphic design role (corporate, studio or agency) with a portfolio demonstrating excellent creative and design skills. Experience in the medical products industry highly desirable. 

 

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

? Comprehensive understanding of copy and typography.

? High proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator on a Macintosh OSX environment.

? Thorough knowledge of print production, prepress file setup and print buying.

? Ability to multi-task with a diverse group of people and meet critical deadlines.

? Ability to make design decisions based on client needs and guidelines.

? Ability to work in a dynamic and flexible environment where priorities and deadlines may change.
