Our lab has an ambitious adaptive systems research focus. We demonstrate our research and technology advancements quantitatively on prototype systems and through pilots with customers and HP's own global IT organization. We have a global presence with researchers working in Palo Alto, California and Bristol, England, as well as in Haifa, Israel, Bangalore, India and

Beijing, China. This allows us to uniquely address global Internet applications, technologies, trends and issues. We are focused on systems research that provides HP with leadership technologies for a global commercial GRID.



Job description:





We are currently seeking highly qualified people with PhDs or equivalent experience to help shape the future of HP's Adaptive Enterprise initiative. Example project areas include, but are not limited to:



- New systems architectures to support availability and security, including use of virtual machines for online hardware and software maintenance
- Research into automation of the life cycle management, design, deployment and run-time management, of utility services, using model-driven technologies, workflow engines, utility computing and networking technologies



- Application of control theoretical approaches to providing automated service level management



- Application of machine learning techniques to automating diagnosis, forecasting and characterization of performance and problems in a utility.



- New technologies for addressing the ever increasing cooling issues at the chip, rack and data center level for higher density servers such as blades
- Sophisticated power management techniques that decrease overall power consumption of enterprise computing systems from small mobile devices to dense servers in data centers
- Quantitative "real time" performance and economic operational models for services and infrastructure
- Distributed systems and virtual machines
- Automated pattern recognition and machine learning



- Linux IA/64 kernel performance optimization and secure platform technologies







Must Have:

 





PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant field.  Excellent research and programming skills. Ability to work independently and in teams.  Demonstrated ability to generate, frame, and carry out leadership research (for example, via papers published in top-tier conferences or journals).  Excellent communication skills.
