About the Opportunity

Senior Application Developer (2 positions)
Corporate Headquarters located in beautiful, rural Northern NJ


Selective Insurance is seeking an IT professional to utilize JavaScript and VB skill sets as a key developer in customization of our financial and HR systems; taking on a senior role within the team to coordinate new development efforts and be a hands-on developer responsible for the implementation of our company initiatives. This position reports to the Information Technology Services (ITS) department based at our Corporate Headquarters in Northern NJ.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Modifies existing applications programs or writes new programs of moderate to high level complexity and scope, working with basic applications systems designs and specifications and utilizing standards, procedures, and techniques,Assists lower-level programmers in the development of complex programs,Able to debug and resolve problems of moderate to high level of difficulty,Resolves problems in the production environment,Works effectively within a team environment,Participates in user consulting, systems analysis, general systems design, vendor contracts and detail systems design,Learns user functions, organization and role in the enterprise to the extent required,Develop analysis and design of systems and/or programs,Generate and test program code,Document program code,Assist others with debugging whenever necessary.


Skills and requirements:

A 2 or 4 year degree in computer science, business administration, administration, or related field is preferred, or completion of computer technical school,Intermediate to advanced experience in: JavaScript,HTML,VB.Also preferred, experience in: OracleUNIX,ERP software ? i.e. Lawson Human Resources Suite,Financial software ? i.e. Lawson Financial Suite.Ability to work well with others,Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written,Familiarity with related operating systems.
