Interaction Designer

INTERACTION DESIGNER


All candidates must have strong experience in graphic and interface design for the web and must be able to produce complex HTML pages. A portfolio is required with resume submission.


BASIC PURPOSE
As an interaction designer with Mercury IT Governance, you will help design the applications that IT professionals need to work smarter and more efficiently.  You will be a part of our design team, focusing on the user's experience as we create powerful new tools for IT project management, decision support, cost tracking, ticketing, and backend automation.  To do this job well, you will need excellent communication skills because you will be working with almost everyone in R&D.  You will be the usability thinker throughout our design process: Starting with requirements from our users, you will work with subject matter experts to produce design sketches, interaction behaviors, then prototypes, and finally the finished interface. You will work closely with customers to gather feedback and incorporate that into future releases. As part of the process, you must reach out to other groups within the company and communicate design needs, always looking for new ways to update and refresh the look and feel of the user interface.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As an interaction designer you will be responsible for the look and feel of the product suite. Your core duties include production of screens, icons, and other graphical elements required for the final product.
You will work closely with the application design team to:
• Take product requirements from the conceptual phase to finished product.
• Communicate interface and interaction designs through maps, schematics, and visual prototyping.
• Produce HTML screens for use by development teams
• Foster a supportive environment for providing and receiving interface critiques; encourage and collect feedback on designs; and integrate changes into the product.
• Provide guidelines and standards to developers on product designs with regard to information presentation, navigation, and interface behaviors.
• Communicate and collaborate with corporate marketing personnel to stay updated on the Corporate Brand and how it applies to the product suite.
• Ensure that user-centered design principles and in-house interface standards are correctly implemented before the product goes to market.



ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND ENVIRONMENT


• BS or BA in Graphic Design, Interface and Information Design or a related area is required.
• 4-5 years of work experience focused on graphic and interface design for interactive browser based applications.
• 2+ years working within an R&D / Engineering team developing enterprise applications products.


• Communicate clearly and effectively.
• Possess strong analytical and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrate the ability to work and play well with others
• Be able to switch rapidly between projects in a fast-paced and exciting environment while remaining detail-focused.
• Have a strong understanding of visual design, user interface design, usability, and web technologies including browser and platform issues.
• Have a strong understanding of HTML, CSS, and the latest browser technologies
• Able to design and build within the constraints of HTML



SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
• Passionate about design principles and clear visual communication.
• Well-versed in visual design theory and practice.
• Understanding of interactive web-based application design and how it differs from traditional software interface design.
• Knowledgeable in mapping business and user processes and requirements to software application development (specifically focused on usability).
