Internet Data Evaluation Intern Search Technology

Were looking for a creative individual with a background in knowledge engineering, linguistics and/or editorial skills to join our dynamic Vertical Search Technologies team in Oakland, CA.


This position offers a unique window on the intentions and needs of millions of ask.com searchers. The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of how linguistic structure relates to meaning (ambiguity vs. vagueness, for example) coupled with the ability to apply that knowledge to making choices that affect editorial-driven search engine responses.


Responsibilities:


Review of structured and semi-structured data from user queries and proprietary database content.

Evaluation of output of advanced algorithms and ability to provide informed feedback to developers.

Preparation and validation of data sets for natural language processing and machine learning algorithms.




Requirements:

Qualifications:


College major in Linguistics, Journalism, Writing, or other Humanities (History, Philosophy, Literature etc.)

Good familiarity with Windows environment (e.g., Excel)

Previous experience in a web / editorial environment.


Ideal:


Basic understanding of HTML and XML

Basic familiarity with databases (e.g., Access)
