Java Server Engineer

Java Server Engineer Our team is creating an exciting, groundbreaking platform for online journals. This new platform will transform the way in which scientific and medical papers are published. In the process, we hope to make current some of the tools for communications vital to supporting the iterative nature of the scientific method, particularly the community evaluation of results. We aren't merely pondering Web 2.0 and semantic web technologies for scholarly communications, we're actually implementing them! (our project is mentioned in the current issue of Wired) We are committed to both the open source software movement and the open access publishing model. Our aim is to provide a dynamic and interactive environment for the open sharing of knowledge. We seek a full-time Java developer to work on the application server of our project. This person will be responsible for developing middle-tier Java code to interact with an AJAX front-end and an RDF back-end (data will be provided as plain Java objects). We are located in San Francisco (SOMA) with very easy access to BART and MUNI. The candidate should have the following skills: - Strong Java experience in a servlet environment (Tomcat, Jetty, Weblogic, etc) - Deployed and maintained a production Java web application site - Knowledge of HTTP and the servlet specification - Experience with a web application framework (Struts, Webwork, etc) - BS in Computer Science - 5+ years overall software engineering experience - Self starter with ability to work with minimal supervision - Good communication and documentation skills - Commitment to producing quality work - Excellent problem solver Experience with the following is a plus: - Webwork - Freemarker Templates - XML/XSLT - XHTML/CSS - SubversionAll applicants applying for U.S. job openings must be authorized to work in the United States.
